There were 64 deadly shootings in Sweden during all of 2022, a year that shattered the previous annual record of deadly shootings by a whole 17 (!) murders. There are no indications that the increasingly fatal gang conflicts will decrease in 2023

To sum it up: Swedish army will directly help police with surveillance, analyses, etc -- but legislative changes are necessary for soldiers to be used as police. This will take time, but is better than nothing. The entire justice system needs revamping, but that's another topic

Here are two examples of AK-type rifles seized by Swedish police, this case from 2014. Weapons are smuggled into Sweden from the Balkans through non-existant customs controls at Öresund bridge.
Swedish gangs are using assault rifles more often in shootings, study shows. Between 2011-2018, use of assault rifles in Stockholm increased by 50%. The number of gunshot wounds on victims also increased from an average of 4 in 2011 to 11 in 2018
