Police & Crime Commissioners (PCCs) were set up in 2012, taking over from the old Police Authorities, which had elected councillors & independent members. From the start, the public has generally not been enthusiastic of these ‘Police Czars’. https://t.co/msFPzLxjpf

I have huge respect for Police Supt Harvinder Khatkar @HarviKhatkar, who is ‘walking the talk’ when others choose to ‘sit out’ and do nothing when they see intolerance within the police service. @NBPAUK @PoliceChiefs

‘Here we go again’ - when will the Commissioner of the ⁦@metpoliceuk⁩ & other ⁦@PoliceChiefs⁩ accept that it has an ‘institutional’ problem concerning intolerance? Enough is enough & I expect police leaders to act or leave! ⁦@NBPAUK

Leaving ECHR puts the UK ‘on par with Russia and Belarus’ - The union of nations must ask itself what kind of society it wishes to have. Removing rights that have been hard fought for leaves us all open to the return of past abuses.

Ethnicity and religion have nothing to do with ‘Honour Crimes’. The offenders are from subcultures of wider groups, which they do not represent. Such offences have no place, and people need to be encouraged to report any suspicions of such crimes & not to respond personally.

@ukhomeoffice ‘Honourless Killings and Assaults’—for that is what they are—have no place anywhere on the planet. The motivation of a few subcultures to commit such crimes is rooted in outdated beliefs about the role of women in society & ignorance, power & hate.

@NickFerrariLBC @NickFerrariLBC, Extremists of all flavours attempt to portray their movement as one of “family values” or “concerned parents” rather than as possessing radical ideologues. A mob is a mob, whether the thugs' children are present or not!

@NickFerrariLBC, sadly, you are sounding like you are defending the indefensible. Crime statistics are being manipulated for a political agenda. Nick, if you desire to tackle the causes of disharmony & crime, then look at the real causes, which have nothing to do with migrants.

Burning such an effigy was beyond vile—but worse was how few objected. A moral compass is missing for many, if they ever had one at all.

This requires clarification, for this appears to be an anti-Semitic ‘old school’ trope. Feel free to criticise the abhorrent behaviour of the government of Israel & the IDF, & equally Hamas, but do not promote antisemitism. I expect better of Ms Abbott.

Right 'populism' is elites selling neoliberalism as if the working class (or those who are represented as 'the people' want it) via racism and reaction. That and a euphemism for the far right.

Dear @MayorofLondon, Sir Sadiq Khan, I understand and support the need for the ‘tough on crime’ approach, but when is the ‘tough on the causes of crime’ part going to start? A problem-oriented approach is not enough. There is a need to seek genuine prevention-based solutions.

The Home Secretary announced on @LBC that the Police Services of England & Wales will be called on to be more economic & effective. Perhaps the @PoliceChiefs, @policesupers & @PFEW_HQ should lead on this, otherwise it will be imposed. Are 43 separate services really required?
