It is with heavy hearts that we report the death of Honorary Police Officer Raymond Schwartz. After a courageous battle he passed away Tuesday morning at the age of 15. Please keep Ray and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Ray, we have the watch from here.

Patrolmen Thomas Bell & James Knight responded to a 9-1-1 call in December for a woman in labor. Without time to get to the hospital Patrolman Bell assited in the delivery of baby Lucas while Patrolman Knight comforted the new parents.

It has been 47 years since the death of the only Cranford Police Officer to lose his life in the line of duty. Patrolman Robert F. Hand sacrificed his life protecting and serving the citizens of Cranford on February 11, 1975 following a motor vehicle pursuit.

Officer Siessel was patrolling his post this week & was flagged down by a group of children on Stratford Terrace. The kids asked if he would attend a funeral they were having for Peanut the neighborhood squirrel. He was happy to attend and gave the kids a tour of the police car.

Members of Cranford PD witnessed a bench dedication in memory of Ray Schwartz at Lincoln Park today. The bench was created by Ray’s friend Anthony Bottino for his Eagle Scout Project. Ray was an Honorary CPD Officer who passed away in 2019 after his courageous battle with cancer.

Why did the chicken cross the road? Apparently to create a traffic hazard. Officer Bell retrieved a loose chicken from beneath a car today in the area of the jug-handle. The chicken is in good hands with Animal Control.

We’re happy to announce we have purchased an Omni Max Pet Chip Reader. We began using the scanner today & had 2 separate stray dogs that we found, both with microchips. We identified the owners & got them home. Patrolman Ryan Gerrity is shown with our first successful dog scan.

Detective Joseph Seals will be laid to rest tomorrow, December 17th. His daughter, Hailey Seals, graduated from Cranford High School in June 2019. As a community we can show our support for Hailey and the family of Detective Seals by wearing blue on Tuesday.

It's hard to imagine, but it's been 10 years since Hurricane Irene struck the Township of Cranford. The Cranford Municipal Building and especially the Police Department were significantly damaged during this storm, but services to the township were never interrupted.

Strange call of the day.....police units responded to a call of a bird that flew through a bathroom window into the home. Upon arrival officers found this little hawk relaxing in the jacuzzi. Patrolman Bell was able to convince him to leave and go back to a nearby tree.
