I've studied Ngugi wa Thiong'o 🇰🇪 for years in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 & Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦, as he was a giant in the postcolonial studies field. His writings were inspiring and mind provoking, as well as his novels were rich in imagery, history, and sharp edged criticism of the colonial era.

2) There is a film adaptation in Dutch called Oeroeg (Going Home in English) that came out in 1993. It is very different from the novel, especially focusing on the latter half the novel about the war of independence and the Dutch fighting back, but with many flashbacks.
