Putting a pause on family vacation to announce that I’ve been promoted to Associate Professor with #tenure! Starting out in academia, I never dared to think I would become a professor. It was an uphill battle with being first gen, black woman in STEM, and a single parent trainee.

I recall my first @Immunopaedia workshop in Ethiopia starting an a young independent and enthusiastic research exploring the the tools of bioinformatics to study antigenic peptides as vaccine candidates. I feel so fulfilled to be in a lab chasing my dreams to be a virologist.

Winning two awesome fellowships (2022 MCElroy and 2023 Merkin fellowships) in less than a year, and learning from an ever supportive PI @EOSaphire is a blessing I can’t take for granted, looking back from where I come from. As a grad student I have learnt to be prayerful
