I also think I saw @faisalislam get off the train a few minutes later. I assume he's come to swear allegiance to our new Dalek overlords.

I guess there's no need to go to work today, BECAUSE HUMANITY IS CLEARLY DOOMED.

It's always pretty horrifying to realise that I remember having very little money during my PhD, and yet when I was studying 2006-2010 that was pretty much the highest PhD stipends have *ever* been relative to the minimum wage.
With #Budget2024 confirming an increase in minimum wage I've updated my chart of UKRI minimum PhD stipends. From next April, PhD students in the UK will be around £1400 a year worse off than if they worked 37.5 hours a week on minimum wage

Good to see that @Clarity_BT are making sure I have all the appropriate visas for a trip 38 minutes down the railway line. I hear the Border Agency inspections at Reading where they try to catch non-Londoners sneaking inside the M25 without a visa and passport are *fierce*.

In a collaboration including @DEMec_feup and @NanjingUnivers1, we show in #MonWeaRev @AMSPublications that accounting for nonhydrostatic effects in #orographic gravity #wave drag #parametrization improves WRF's forecast of Northeast China cold vortices: https://t.co/nZLHjnkpYc

The "Smart" Filter also can't filter by price (although there are other ways to do that at least). It's actually quite impressively bad.

Nice to see that @trivago have got rid of any way to filter by distance (except 'sort by distance', which means you then can't also sort by price) and replaced it with an 'AI Smart Filter' which can't even manage to do something this simple. Great work all!

The horizontal white stripe is either the reflection of the train lights or aliens. Probably aliens.

On my way to give a seminar at UEA. Working on new slides on the train, and there is a lovely double rainbow over the Stour Valley.
