Sorry I keep tweeting about this, folks. It just bothers me that certain people try to validate this nonsense. FSU wasn’t kept out because of Jordan Travis. FSU was kept out because the SEC had to be in. Quit acting like the backup QB discussion is anything other than an excuse.
If UGA had beaten Alabama, the order would’ve been:
1. UGA
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. FSU
But they HAD to have an SEC team at all
costs. Had to. Well, you can’t put in Bama and leave out the team that beat them by two scores. So, you use Travis injury as an excuse.
Since Travis injury, the Florida State defense was on the field for 38 possessions. And allowed 1 touchdown. And that came after a horrible personal foul call that negated a third-down stop. So, essentially 0 TDs on 38 possessions SINCE the injury. But hey, couldn't compete!
I think FSU wins national championship with Jordan Travis.
I KNOW FSU could’ve competed with either one these teams with Tate Rodemaker.
Noles had a solid defense, too! If i remember correctly.
Seminoles finish on a 24-3 run. On the road. In a rivalry game. With a backup quarterback. 12-0. Miss me with all the “style points” nonsense. Please. That was a great win.
Number of weeks ACC teams were ranked in AP Top 5 since FSU joined in 1992.
Duke 0.
Wake 0.
NC State 0.
Virginia 0.
Ga Tech 0.
*Syracuse 0.
*Pitt 0.
*Boston College 4.
*Miami 5.
*Louisville 6.
North Carolina 7.
*VT 14.
Clemson 107.
FSU 190.
*Since joining ACC
I personally think FSU - with Tate Rodemaker at QB - wouldn’t need a 4th and 31 miracle to beat Auburn. But that’s just an opinion. It’s not a stone-cold fact like saying Alabama is better in all CAPS. With two exclamation points! The 2nd half of this post is very nice, though!
Not counting goofy COVID season (Ohio State played five games), there have only been two instances in CFP history where an undefeated Power 5 team had one-loss teams ranked ahead of it.
2014.
2023.
Both Florida State.
Crazy few years for FSU fans.
The national championship coach questioned their commitment to winning on his way out the door.
The No. 1 recruit, who had been a commit, threw the FSU hat on the ground on NSD.
Well, Jimbo is done. The other dude is 4-6.
And FSU is 10-0.
This is a Jammie Robinson appreciation tweet. Had 14 more tackles tonight, with a sack, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. He also was the only starter in the secondary for a large portion of second half. Dude is just a football player, man.
Never forget the last two games this guy played. When it still seemed FSU would get into playoffs with two more wins, the dude rose to another level and essentially became unblockable.
Great player.
Great legacy.
Still trying to process this half. Impressive job by Tate to lead FSU to 24 straight points to close it out. But, man, I don't think I've ever felt worse for a player I've covered than I do for Jordan Travis right now. Just an awful end to a great, great career.
Florida State is now 11th in the country in total defense.
Florida State is now 16th in the country in total offense.
The only other teams who are Top 20 in both?
Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State.
Here's what MY CFP Final Four would be:
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Florida State
4. Texas
... And I promise --- I PROMISE --- the world would still keep spinning if the SEC wasn't in the playoff. Lord knows they'll have six in it next year!
Great, great time. Second fastest of all LBs. Fiske was the fastest DT and Verse was the third-fastest DE. I’m starting to think the 2023 Florida State defense had some good players on it.
Norvell on CFP conversation: "I don't think there is a conversation." Points out that nobody in the country has beaten more Power 5 bowl-eligible teams than FSU. "And we just beat a Top 15 team with a true freshman quarterback."
And this is an absolutely great win. Don't get it twisted. 13-0. Just won a championship game with a third-string QB. Great, great, great win. Great team. What a fun season.
So, dating back to end of 2020, FSU is now 8-3 in the last 11 games started by Jordan Travis. The three losses were in OT to Notre Dame and one-score defeats at Clemson and at Florida.
Turns out, he’s a pretty big deal.
Most QBs would’ve have left two years ago. I understand timing isn’t ideal, but Rodemaker was a backup for 4 years. Can’t imagine there are 10 other QBs in the country that stuck it out that long. Plus, wins at Louisville and the Swamp. Good Nole. Bad timing. Good luck to him.
I mean, considering the schedule they played and how they rolled through the NCAA Tournament, this has to be one of the best seasons in the history of the sport, right? I mean, that was incredible by FSU women's soccer.
And Jordan Travis is the truth. Couldn’t run at all. Took some big hits. No running game. Played every snap … and on his last one he made a great throw to a great WR.
Dude is 19-5 in his last 24 games as a starter, with wins over Miami, UF and now … Clemson.
Renardo Green was here for some really bad times. Stuck with it, switched from corner to safety back to corner and became an exceptional college DB. Now a 2nd round pick! Good for him.
Travis Hunter seems like a long time ago doesn’t it? Because FSU is apparently a recruiting juggernaut again. Huge, huge commit for Norvell and his program.
Have no idea how this one will end. Still lots of time left. But that's the best half an FSU football team has played since ... I don't even know when.
There isn’t a program in the United States that needed a crazy win like that more than Florida State. Because it gave that game away. Except … it didn’t. It won. Just beat LSU. Now 2-0 on the season. Go get drunk!
Also: Shout-out to Ryan Fitzgerald. That dude was nails all season long. And the kicks he made last night were enormous. Dude turned himself into a weapon. Cool to see after the struggles in 2022.
Terance Mann --
"I just brought the fight. What I did was the night before was Google & YouTube Mike Cofer, my teammates father who passed and just saw how hard he played, how much fight he gave on the field and I wanted to bring that with me....I played my heart out for that."
Florida State currently has seven sports ranked in the Top 7 in the United States.
Women's soccer No. 1
Men's golf No. 1.
Women's golf No. 2.
Beach volleyball No. 2.
Men's track No. 6.
Softball No. 7.
Women's tennis No. 7.
All told, there are 12 sports ranked in Top 25.
If Bama had just lost the one time and looked incredible ever since … maybe i would understand. Maybe. But they needed a 4th and 31 miracle to beat Auburn. Two weeks ago! … Feel awful for the FSU players.
Cam Akers was one of the best running backs in Florida State history. What he did the last three years - behind those offensive lines - is truly remarkable. Here's hoping that kid is in the NFL for a decade.
An incredible streak on the line today for Florida State.
For some perspective ...
Number of days since last losing season:
Florida State, 15,344
Oklahoma: 7,308
Alabama: 4,349
Clemson: 2,885
Georgia: 2,885
Ohio State: 2,508
Miami: 1,428
Notre Dame: 727
Florida: 364
That's one of the best single weeks I can ever remember FSU baseball having. Went 4-0, with four victories over Florida and Miami. Outscored Gators and Canes by combined margin of 44-4. FSU pitchers struck out 50 in 36 innings and FSU didn't commit a single error this weekend.
Terance Mann scored 18 more points tonight for the Clippers. In his last eight games: 14.8 points per game, 6.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists in 28 minutes per game. He's shooting 55 percent from the floor and 43 percent from 3.
I mean, the dude is a legit NBA player. Awesome to see.
But clearly —- CLEARLY —- the FSU defense got worse. And was about to get run over by a Big 10 team? This is your job, man. Be better than this bullshit.
Nothing ugly about road dubs. Especially when you close the game on a 24-0 run. And you clinch a spot in the ACC Championship game. Without your two NFL WRs. Survive. Advance. Move on.
That’s a 10-win season, FSU fans. And a whole lot of those dudes are coming back. Great game. Fun year. Go get drunk. It’s basically the weekend anyway.
We'll always wonder if Tate Rodemaker could've delivered in the clutch like this. Can't win without a great QB, obviously, and McElroy proved it that night with a game for the ages.
I know people will point to the Leonard injury as the turning point. That's certainly fair. But he doesn't play defense. And Jordan Travis was exceptional against that Duke defense when it mattered most.
Florida State has now had 6 players drafted in the first 96 picks. And more than that, of the first 43 defensive players taken --- FIVE of them came from FSU. That's 11.6 percent of all defensive draft picks. Unreal.
Keir Thomas - the "other defensive end" for FSU - had seven tackles, three for loss, two sacks and FIVE quarterback hits in the win at BC. 4 and 11 have been incredible for the FSU defense this season.
Current national class rankings:
Florida State --- 12th
Clemson --- 29th
Florida --- 49th
Miami --- 63rd
I mean, we all know what happened earlier today. Still, No. 12 in the country - after a 5-7 season - ain't too shabby. Now go get some WRs in the portal.
Despite all the hand-wringing over today's events,
#FSU
is up to No. 12 in Rivals' recruiting rankings following
@ArmellaJulian
's commitment and signing.
There are 129 FBS teams. FSU currently ranks 119th in turnover margin, 124th in red zone offense, 127 in rushing offense, 128th in yards per carry, 128th in third-down conversion, 128th in TFL allowed and 128th in penalties. Have a great evening!
That was the Marvin Wilson we've been waiting to see. Dude was great. And J-Rob had three tackles for loss and two sacks. Defensive line, even without Lovett for the whole game and Durden for a half, was in Howell's face all night. Can't say I expected to see that. Great effort.
Chubba is out. Travis is questionable. Blackman is no longer on the team. And Clemson is coming to town! ... If you dond't have Saturday afternoon plans, go make some.
Since FSU joined the conference in 1992 here’s a look at how many weeks certain ACC schools have been ranked in the Top 10:
UNC 26
Ga Tech 18
UVA 9
Wake Forest 2
NC State 2
Duke 0
Florida State … 253
Instead of mocking FSU for its bluster or criticizing the ‘Noles for not being great for a few years, our
@Corey_Clark
explains why these other ACC schools should show some appreciation for FSU and Clemson absolutely carrying the conference for decades.
This is a straight-up neutral crowd. It's half FSU and half LSU. Seminoles' fans have been starved for a trip/stage like this. That's apparent. They're out in full force.
At least he feels sick about it. That’s usually a good sign the right thing was done. … Just wish the NFL had canceled the Eagles’ season when Wentz got hurt. No way they could win a Super Bowl with Nick Foles.
It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about how gutted every Florida State player and coach must feel after yesterday’s news. But I still think the CFP Selection Committee got it right given the circumstances. It just sucks that the 12-team playoff is starting a year too late!
My favorite moment from the national championship game against Auburn (six years ago tonight): Tre Mason doing the Heisman pose after his fantastic TD run. Then having to watch from the sidelines as the real Heisman winner led a championship-winning drive in the final minute.
And yes, Fiske deserved the MVP. I don't know who voted for it, but someone from the defense - because that was a historic performance - deserved the award, IMO. But hey, first-world problems, right?
Sports are so goofy. I genuinely believe FSU wins by three touchdowns if Lucas doesn't get the personal foul on the first drive. But he did. And they didn't. ... But a dub is still a dub. And the last time FSU beat a Top 5 team was Notre Dame in 2014.
This dude played an enormous role in getting FSU back to this point. Great player. Transcendent in his one year. And helped pave the way for what's happened since he left.
Devin Vassell goes No. 11 to the Spurs. When FSU offered him in April of 2017 his only other offers were from Stetson and North Florida. Now he’s a lottery pick. Unreal.
We did it! Last time I saw the Braves win a World Series game was with my dad in October, 1995. Braves won 1-0 on a 1-hitter. This time I got to watch a 2-0 win on a 2-hitter. With my 13-year-old son. Life is a flat circle!
Also, he failed to mention that Washington was 11-1 also. And beat that Miami team. The Canes weren’t undefeated either. If they had been, they’d have played Oklahoma. It’s not apples to apples.
Anyway. Worst loss in FSU history. At least since my birth. All the goodwill built up last Sunday night completely erased. One step forward. Two steps back. Genuinely stunned at that defensive call with six seconds left.
According to Pro Football Focus ... Of the 849 FBS O-linemen in the country who have played 20 percent of team's snaps this season, FSU has guys ranked No. 849, 848, 830, 798, 771, 607 and 485. Have a great evening, folks!
The Corey Clark official power rankings of best seasons by an FSU quarterback:
1. Jameis Winston, 2013
2. Charlie Ward, 1993
3. Chris Weinke, 2000
4. Jordan Travis, 2022*
5. Peter Tom Willis, 1989
*Travis accounted for 3,165 yards and 30 total touchdowns with just 4 INTs.
Florida State out-rushed Notre Dame 264-65. That's an unbelievable turnaround after what we saw last year. Staggering really. But hey, a loss is a loss. I get it. No moral victories in Tallahassee. I just can't believe that rushing discrepancy.
That's a fitting end to this second half. Complete and utter domination. That's 31-0 this half. Florida State is absolutely and positively for real. You can believe.
And people are going to point to the 16 points and the horrid passing game. Guess what, fools? That was the third-stringer. Tate Rodemaker makes a difference. A big one.
It's weird because they played two games after that injury. Won them both. And didn't need a Hail Mary to beat Florida (which is the equivalent of Auburn). Ok, I'm done rage-tweeting!
In the three years before Bobby Bowden arrived FSU football was 4-29. Arguably the worst program in the country.
In the first five years after he arrived FSU football was 44-14. With two Orange Bowls and three 10-win seasons.
Just an incredible football coach.
Pretty good chance FSU men will be ranked No. 5 in the country when new polls are released. I’m not sure I was born the last time that happened. And I’m old.
