Inspired by John Dunn’s essay of the same name, I’ve written a review essay on three recent books, on ‘the future of liberalism’. 1. Liberalism Against Itself @samuelmoyn .2. Liberalism as a Way of Life @alex_usyd .3. Regenerative Politics @EmmaPlaninc .

On the books’ implications for Aus FP: . “A combination of Strating and Wallis’s foregrounding of Australia’s maritime security and Behm’s call for a regionally anchored Australian multilateralism would serve the current government well as a blueprint for a post-AUKUS future.”.

In @theage today: . “With the defence commentariat insisting that guns are now more important than butter, it is beyond time that such claims are put through the same rigorous analysis as every other policy area”.

A push for Australia to increase its defence spending to 3.5 per cent of GDP would threaten the government’s policy agenda.

Excited to have published my first opinion piece with @theage newspaper on the latest Australian Defence spending debate. Any massive increase would be the defining piece of the government’s policy agenda, at the expense of childcare, dental, and health.
