The park will close at 4PM July 30-31 & Aug 1 for feral hog management. Gates will reopen 7 AM these dates. Standard park hours will resume August 2. More information:

A Flood Warning is effect for the Congaree R. The Congaree is expected to rise above 16 ft. Cedar Creek is currently close to 8 ft. Flood conditions expected on most park trails. More information:

Congaree R. currently above flood stage, expected to rise another 2 ft before lowering. Cedar Creek 5.66 ft and rising. Most trails affected excepting elevated Boardwalk, Bluff, Firefly, and Longleaf. More information:

*PRESCRIBED BURN UPDATE*.Due to unfavorable conditions, there will NOT be a prescribed burn Wednesday, November 9. Bluff Campground has reopened. Bluff and Firefly Trails will remain open. Staff is looking ahead for potential reschedule dates.

*Hurricane Ian Update 9/30/2022*.All park facilities, campgrounds, trails & canoe launches remain closed. Tropical storm force winds are extending outward of the storm center into the park & will strengthen as the storm moves ashore. See park website for the most current updates.

Due to the forecasted path of Tropical Storm Ian, Congaree National Park and all facilities, campgrounds and trails will be closing at 4:00 pm today, Thursday, September 29, and will be closed until further notice.

The Congaree River is now above flood stage, Cedar Creek soon to follow! Much of the park's trails will be submerged. Backcountry camping & paddling are not recommended during flood conditions.

The Congaree River and Cedar Creek are both above flood stage. Paddling & backcountry camping are not recommended when flood conditions are present. Areas NOT affected include Visitor Center, campgrounds, picnic shelter, upland trails & elevated Boardwalk.

"How high is the water, ranger?" The Congaree River is rising & will remain above flood stage through the weekend. Most trails except the elevated Boardwalk, Bluff, Fireflies, and Longleaf Trails are currently flooded. Paddling and backcountry camping aren't recommended.
