Many people love Little Lulu, and I agree it’s fun. I tend to favor Nancy by Ernie Bushmiller which ran for decades starting in 1938(retitled). The visual puns are just great, here is one strip commenting on Modern Art in 1964.

In the aftermath of Crisis of Infinite Earths, Trina Robbins drew The Legend of Wonder Woman limited series 1986, which she co-created with Kurt Busiek which was essentially a golden age flavored flashback of a 1940s style adventure. Fun pencils, color and story.

Burne Hogarth was a worthy successor to Hal Foster on the Tarzan Sunday strips in 1937. He worked on the character until 1950 with a brief hiatus in the late 1940s. He left to work on his later named, School of Visual Art. Hogarth was at such the top of his game, that reading

Reed Crandall had very few contracted works in the 1970s, some random jobs for Warren Magazines with artwork that reduced in quality over time, one Marvel story for Creatures on the Loose 13, 1971. Treasure Chest stopped buying new material, and he was losing money. He moved in

Chester Gould finally went all in on the costumed criminal with the Blank in 1937. Much like the 1960s Question or 1980s Rorschach he led a relentless war on criminals. The Blank was more like Rorschach and killed them one by one through sadistic methods. His name is Frank

Cathy Guisewite started the Cathy Newspaper Comic strip in 1976 about the comedic day in the life of the modern working woman. The strip ran for 34 years and Cathy earned an Emmy in 1986 and a Reuben Award in 1993.
