Number 2, a prompting-based strategy. This is where I have to be very clear about my requirements and ask for options as well as the pros and cons of each option so that I can make the best decision when implementing something new.

Number 1, a workflow-based strategy, such as using source control and unit testing. This accounts for the majority of my maintenance workflow, as it serves as a reset button in case things go wrong.

Quality of results: With all that said, how do they actually perform? Well, I asked both of them to build a breathing exercise app without any instruction for the UI. Left image is from Claude Code. Right one is from Cursor, which the audience preferred. How about you?

Considerations: Cursor has a free plan, whereas Claude Code needs a paid plan (starting at $17 usd/month) Claude Code has a weekly limit and a session limit which resets each 5 hrs. If you hit the session limit, you can wait until it resets in 5 hours.

Experience: Cursor is a code editor with an AI sidebar. Meanwhile, we used Claude Code via a terminal window to perform actions on our project files. To build, run and debug the project, we still used Xcode. Claude Code does come as a plugin for JetBrains and VS Code so you

Setup time: There’s a lot less set up steps with Claude code compared to Cursor. And even though claude code is used through the terminal, there’s still a graphical interface. This means it’s also helpful to know some basic Unix commands for directory navigation.
