China’s tightening grip on rare earth elements is reshaping global supply chains. These 17 critical minerals power everything from EVs and fighter jets to smartphones and MRIs... While Western nations scaled back production decades ago, China invested heavily, securing

@CodeRed_dev If you dont have any income coming in from other work or a game out selling already, then you ARE unemployed haha. I count myself in that boat right now. Unemployed with a dream! Haha

@CodeRed_dev web development will have such vibe in a few months after people realize LLMs can do it better than mediocre coders...

@CodeRed_dev if you want to make a game, make it. If you want to join a team, you don't have the right mental. But good luck regardless.

@CodeRed_dev It's structured around that. The developers are the disposable pawns. The managers of the studios who have never contributed anything in their lives, are the chess pieces that aren't pawns. To lay off a pawn is to level up in the game. The vibe is accurate. It's rigged.

@CodeRed_dev With all the AI threats looming over game development, it’s a bit of a risky field to enter right now. I know what I’m talking about. I studied digital media and design in college and earned my bachelor’s degree. Just months after I graduated, all these logo makers, website

@CodeRed_dev Well, game dev is as hard if not harder to get into than FAANG at entry level, and it pays a tiny fraction of what FAANG pays with worse benefits and hours, let alone paid time off and sick days. People gonna do the math and decide that if they’re gonna grind, they’re gonna

@CodeRed_dev This fits so many situations: small singers, small actors, illustrators, musicians And since GameDev is the fusion of all these fields, we’re literally the most unemployed people on the planet

🏫 A brilliant new way to assess college rankings. Yesterday City Journal published a brand new system for evaluating colleges, taking into account the entire holistic experience, and countering the political influence that has taken over higher education.

@CodeRed_dev That's why I'm building foundational AI technology for video games. When an AI actually learns combat from players and can beat a player after learning from them, we create an autonomous learning machine that can be applied to other simulations and eventually the real world.

@CodeRed_dev From my own experience game dev is much harder than web dev. Especially if you develop games solo, you need to know how to code, do art, music, level design etc.

@CodeRed_dev It’s crazy I went from graphic design to web development to game development. And while I love making games and pixel animations, I might have to go back to web development or something else 😅🤦♂️ just pay for my game development…

@CodeRed_dev Are there any game development jobs as I have been looking in the UK and there appear to be hardly any?

@CodeRed_dev It's also really fuckin hard to do. Huge time commitment as well, higher chance of failure. lool. You can make a great website in 3 months. You cannot make a great game in 3 months.

@CodeRed_dev Not true, there are more and more people who want to make games, but there are less and less real open positions for those people. The game industry is slowly plateauing into saturation.

@CodeRed_dev That's how art is. "I'm a writer." - unemployed. "I'm a game dev." - unemployed. "I draw." - unemployed. Financial success isn't an artists standard for success. So long as they can sustain themselves while they work on their art, they don't care. Their minds are their mansions

@CodeRed_dev It's sad because game development is way harder and produces a way better product. Also its an actual art compared to Web

@CodeRed_dev Game dev goes one of two ways: join triple A company and be shit on forever, with risk of random staff purges. Or make your own for years and hope it succeeds or you’ll go bankrupt

@CodeRed_dev I mean it's just a way smaller market, every single corporation has some form of proprietary software, internal or external. Whereas game studios have a much smaller market and their only purpose is software, the same issue lies in getting hired at FAANG companies.

@CodeRed_dev Indeed. There are only so many AAA game companies and even in those job stability is basically non-existent bcz of many reasons. In contrast, even small web dev agencies can be financially profiting for 8-10 years so on average job stability and return rate is better.

@CodeRed_dev game dev has a "no one will hire me and if they do i will get destroyed by the machine that is modern game studios" vibes

@CodeRed_dev It's a tough industry to survive in when you're a game dev. I rather keep it as a hobby.
