We included 11 RCTs (852 infants):.- 5 studies acupuncture vs no treatment or sham treatment;.- 4 vs oral sweet solution;.- 2 vs other types of Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments (e.g. foot massage or reflexology). We identified 4 ongoing studies.

We analyzed 79 studies (7197 infants, 326 nurses, 12 physicians) across 26 countries using 27 clinical rating scales. Neonatal pain scales showed very low-certainty evidence, raising serious concerns about their validity and reliability in neonatal care.

Although widely used, there are insufficient data regarding the benefits and harms of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) for the treatment of preterm infants with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Only 2 studies, enrolling a total of 62 infants, met our criteria.
