Craig was a legend within the defensive line community. It was very evident early on he wished to elevate young men to an elite level in the trenches, by providing articulate and excellent information at their finger tips. Rest in Peace Craig, the line of scrimmage has been set.

“You are the standard, you have to be it all the time.” Coaches, this is a non-negotiable in coaching. Do not set standards you don’t embody. Want your position group out there first? Be the first on the field. Want players to hustle between drills? You better run too.

🔥The stutter bull isn’t the easiest rush to master, but… …if you put in the time perfecting each step of this rush… ….you’ll literally be able to MIND CONTROL your opponent. You see, when you properly fake in and out with your head, neck and shoulders… …your opponent’s

🔥In order to effectively run stunt it is essential to show no tips. If you’re leaning or looking at the gap you’re stunting too, you’ll almost certainly tip your opponent off to the fact that you’re exchanging gaps. Instead, put mental weight on your push foot so your opponent

🔥Looking to solve high pad level? My former coach, Jerry Montgomery uses a sensory stimulus (e.g. hands on the back) to remind his D-Line to stay low. Simply apply more pressure if the athlete is too high and less when they’re at an optimum level.

🔥When bull rushing, it’s critical to always have a counter ready. That way, if your opponent sits on your power move, you won’t be stuck to him like a fly on sticky paper. Here’s a few tips from @PTrenches & Jonah Elliss on how to execute this technique.

Take what the OL gives you, and exploit it. If he is a puncher, exploit the hands, clear, turn the corner. Aggravated punchers will often begin to go for big shots, dumping weight into their punches - dump them into the turf with a good bull pull/snatch. FILM STUDY is key!

Much like running the line from a squeeze end position - I tell my DL to “light the match” off the backside of the vacating OL. Point of emphasis = be tight, be right. Shortest distance between 2 points is straight line. Get “home”!

🔥The heel technique can feel like a cheat code for stacking up TFLs against zone read teams. But what exactly is it? To put it simply, it’s an exchange of responsibilities between the LB and DE where… …the DE chases the RB down the LOS when his opponent down blocks and…

🔥Most D-Linemen suck at defeating double teams. They stand straight up and take on both blockers at the same time. Here’s a drill from Texas Tech DL Coach Zarnell Fitch to destroy this back-breaking block.

It’s amazing what a D L can do when they aren’t taught to have their eyes in the backfield and treating every down as a pass rush. Extension. Feel n’ fight pressure. Set a new LOS. Do YOUR job.

🔥Block recognition is core to elite D-Line play. Without it you'll be running around like a chicken with your head cut off. The best drill by far to develop this skill is the 2 on 1 drill. With it you can simulate multiple blocks in a short amount of time.
