MLB is NOT why youth baseball numbers are down. Lacrosse numbers are up and no one's heard of pro lacrosse. Need to make the game more fun and more financially accessible for kids to attract bigger numbers.

Fav drill this year. Had staff go through warmups and get loose. Then sat them in dugout. One at a time they got 2 mins to run to pen, heat up and then get called to game mound where teammates bet if they could throw 7 of 10 pitches for strikes. Revealed a ton.

The best advice my parents gave me was to surround yourself with great people. Lost Dad 20 years ago and Mom yesterday. The messages from former and current players, colleagues and friends have blown me away. Tough stretch but great people will get me by. Thankful coach here.

I teach middle school and coach college baseball. Dad taught middle school for 29 years. No middle schoolers even close to ready for this decision. Borderline criminal that coaches are even offering these kids. They should lock us in a room at the convention until fixed.
2026’s are coming off the board. I’m just curious what is being said to a 2026 graduate at this point in his life? I am trying to learn here. I have no idea how to speak to a 13 year old about the 40 year decision he’s about to make

If the college scandal teaches nothing else, I hope parents hear the advice I give every group I speak too. "Take a deep breath." College is part of the journey, not the destination. If your child is happy, healthy and contributes to society, it's a win.

That time of year, so some friendly email advice:
Short video, couple different angles. Name, year in school, why you're interested in us. Transcript and test scores always help. Summer schedule certainly helps. Spellcheck is your friend and keep it brief.

Remember potential recruits, there is power in a no. School saying no to you moves you closer to your spot. You saying no to a school helps them move on with their list. All part of the process.

There's a mental health crisis amongst student athletes happening RIGHT NOW. Check in with your players. We're not perfect and don't have all the answers but we're way better at addressing mental health than we were 5 years ago and we'll be better in 5 years. Keep learning.

This is the single best piece of advice out there. If baseball is important to you, watch college baseball. You'll figure out where you belong and learn a ton. Watch a d3 playoff game and see how good it is.

Friendly reminder that PSA's should be sending emails, not parents. Three huge indicators of success in college are time management, physicality and how important baseball is. If it's not important enough to send your own emails it's a bad sign.
