A: We apply a code to VoD ads which correspond to which timing restriction it would be given (if linear TV). The Broadcasters then use this to schedule the ads around appropriate programming.

A: Restrictions can be for many reasons eg avoiding harm, offence, dangerous emulation. As well as this, some product categories get an automatic minimum restriction (regardless of content) if outlined as unsuitable for certain audiences. Full list here:

A: Ads & programmes are:. Considered differently:.- Advertising v entertainment.- Less viewer choice on content when seeing ads. Assessed differently:.- Ads: against BCAP code (we can escalate to Broadcasters who are the final arbiter).- Programmes: against other guidelines.

Q3 comes from the #Advertiser course:.🤔What's the difference between what TV programming can show before 9pm & what we can show in ads? Because for example, we've seen nudity post 9pm on TV recently that we dont think would necessarily be allowed in an ad. #WeeklyInsights.

A: The most common reason ads dont get approved is lack of evidence! It's important to provide robust substantiation for every claim in your ad, otherwise we'll just come back and ask for more, slowing down the process (or perhaps not being able to approve it at all!).
