Recent changes to how #bycatch is reported in #NewZealand #fisheries has raised concerns around the monitoring of incidents involving the endangered Hector's #dolphin, one of the rarest marine mammals in the world. More here πŸ‘‡

Conservationists are worried a lag in reporting the number of Hector's dolphins killed in fishing bycatch is preventing the industry from doing more to save them.

#Seabird #bycatch in longline #fisheries could be significantly reduced by sinking hooks out of the birds' reach as quickly as possible – but the challenges of #fishing out at sea mean this isn't necessarily simple to do. That's where a new trial from @docgovtnz comes in. 1/2
