BREAKING: In hundreds of jails across the US, children can no longer visit their parents. Why? A conspiracy to make money.

Not one, but TWO victories in New Orleans! On Friday, we won declaratory judgment in a suit that argues the city operates a modern-day debtors’ prison: jailing folks too poor to pay court fines & fees. Today, we won summary judgment in our suit challenging the cash bail system.

When prosecutors break the law - with no consequences - just to win a case, people’s lives are at stake.
People have a right to life and liberty, but prosecutors don’t have a “right” to prosecute & cage. This is the first step towards shrinking the power of prosecutors.
Police data in Nassau County NY showed of the 2,641 people arrested & released without bail from April 1- June 30, 195 were re-arrested - a recidivism rate of 7 percent.

According to our Complaint, the officers submitted false and misleading statements under oath to a magistrate, judge, and prosecutor in an effort to cover up the wrongful arrest.
Then, in 2023, a small group of County employees signed a secretive, massive contract with Accenture to take over redesigning pretrial services.
The contract was not publicly bid. This is EXTREMELY unusual and reeks of corruption.
For years, judges in New Orleans were incentivized to extract as much $$ as they could from poor defendants because the money raised went back towards funding the court system. In both of our cases, the federal court ruled that this is an unconstitutional conflict of interest.
The county of Los Angeles has worked harder to circumvent the will of its own people than it has to implement the good policy they voted for. Sloppy consultant contracts with no intent to achieve good outcomes. This is a money grab for the policing and surveillance industry.
Residents overwhelmingly voted for community-based alternatives to incarceration. Accenture, an unaccountable surveillance consultant with ties to police and ICE, is now at the wheel. 12 highly-paid contractors will determine the future of LA County’s jail system. Learn more:
