Did you know that all four #CoulsdonCommons are included in one section of the #LondonLoop? .Section 5: Hamsey Green-Coulsdon South is one of the most picturesque sections taking in chalk downland & historic greenspaces that form the South London Downs NNR.

We are thrilled to share that the Kenley Revival volunteer team has been highly commended in the prestigious "Best Team" category at the London Heritage Volunteer Awards! It was an absolute honor for us to nominate this exceptional group preserving RAF Kenley's legacy.#LHVA2024

#OnThisDay in 2006, Woodplace Farm Fields were officially inaugurated. These two fields adjoining #FarthingDowns were purchased thanks to a monumental fundraising campaign by local residents and the Coulsdon Green Belt Action Group.

Earlier in October, for the second time this year, we were able to witness the northern lights, with vibrant red hues lighting up the night sky over The Commons. One of our Rangers managed to capture the silhouette of The Folly on #FarthingDowns in May this year!

Please don't dump your pumpkins!. A myth seems to have built up that leaving pumpkins in woods and open spaces is good for wildlife. Sadly, this is not the case and they can cause huge problems for animals such as hedgehogs when eaten, and bring disease into fragile habitats.

A huge thank you to our incredible Kenley Common volunteers!.Today, they’re out in force helping the Ranger clear around the RAF Tribute blast pen on Kenley Common, making sure it’s in perfect shape ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

A snapshot of Brian Hope-Taylor's excavation on #FarthingDowns in 1948. These excavations revealed much about the Anglo-Saxons buried in barrows and unmarked graves on the downs.

A particularly lovely find on a Yew tree on #FarthingDowns this week: the Yew artichoke gall, created by a tiny midge called Taxomyia taxi.

What a sight! . Recently we had a pair of working draft horses helping our team carefully extract timber on Coulsdon Common. It’s fantastic to see this low-impact, sustainable technique still in use to aid woodland management and habitat restoration.
