We need to increase the pace of clean energy and transmission buildout. A new NRDC report outlines key challenges in the permitting process and recommends steps the administration, Congress, states, and other key stakeholders can take to ensure we don’t miss this crucial moment.
The U.S. needs to build out clean energy infrastructure—and deciding where is complex. We need a process that maximizes health and economic benefits, andputs communities first. Our new report lays out permitting reforms to put people and climate first. https://t.co/He37Rn1LbO

Highly recommend. It is a great concert, but also a sobering reminder of what Memorial Day is about.
America’s national night of remembrance, the National Memorial Day Concert, returns live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for a special 35th anniversary broadcast tonight. Tune in 8/7c on PBS. @LockheedMartin #MemDayPBS #MemorialDay #PBS #lockheedmartin

☀️From today's @FERC meeting: "During heavily loaded system conditions, transmission lines support reliable grid operations and provide significant economic value, transferring energy from regions that have excess energy to regions where energy is limited."

“We urgently need every grid operator to determine where and what transmission lines to build,” said @NRDC's Cullen Howe. “The power system is changing, and this rule ensures the nation’s power grid will advance with clarity and consistency." https://t.co/qWwhjD7gbx

Major changes to the way long-distance power lines are planned and built aim to revitalize an overwhelmed electricity grid buckling under soaring demand.

We're not done yet. Compliance will be crucial. But today was a good day.

So much to be excited about: 20 year planning that looks at the realities of the changing system; calculating 7 reliability and economic benefits; looking at grid-enhancing technologies; and transparency into the local planning process with an eye to right sizing.

I'm still manically refreshing the FERC website to get the text of the rules, but from all indications FERC took bold action today. The standing room only FERC meeting room was buzzing with excitement - and I think it was all deserved.

Looking forward to talking about an important rule. I can’t wait until it is issued on Monday. I have high hopes it’ll be a great one!

5/end But even if none of that was true, nobody should ever have to suffer this. Beware - this is hard to read. Gut wrenching. I wish I was reading about Cara’s big amazing concert with one of the world’s premiere orchestras. Instead this, and it makes me sick and angry.

4/Cara and I were in the same horn studio in college. I won’t claim that we were friends - she was younger than me and started when I was on study abroad. But I remember her as almost superhumanly talented and hardworking, kind, smart, and all the good things.

3/HER story. As told by her, and through records. She did the right things - she went to the police, she told her employers, her colleagues, and others. The entire system let her down. We have to be able to do better than this.

2/ Since I first read it, I’ve been siting on my disgust, deep sadness, and cycles of ever increasing rage. I’ve written this, rewritten this, and deleted this several times. Mostly because I’m speechless or only have words that are not suitable to print. So read Cara’s story.
