Taking time to ensure regulations and standards are designed, interpreted, and enforced in ways that do not create barriers to effective and efficient patient care could greatly reduce burden in health care, both at the local level and broadly. (8/8)

Whether health care professionals are thought of as “knights” (motivated by virtue), “knaves” (motivated by self-interest), or “pawns” (passive actors amenable to manipulation by external constraints) will influence how local policies are written and enforced. (7/8)

The majority, 15 of 16 (94%) agreed or strongly agreed that “If a clinician’s action is not documented it is not ‘done.’” setting up an unattainable expectation that every action can/should be recorded: that a medical record should nearly scale at 1:1 with care provided. (5/8)

The solution is not more training. My suggestion: advanced team-based care with minimum of 1 nurse and 1 MA per full-time physician. (3/4)

1. MDs do not need more EHR training. The majority of family physicians reported high EHR proficiency. There was no association between EHR proficiency and burnout. It is time to lay to rest the myth of the technology-resistant physician. The problem is not the end-user. (2/4)
