#HYPHIP A15: Mineralocorticoid receptor antagonism might be a strategy to implement a low-sodium diet for the prevention of cardiovascular disease even within broader populations beyond primary aldosteronism.

#HYPHIP A14/2: We were surprised by the potent effect in terms of „normalization“ of the taste threshold. I would prefer to speak of a reduction in the range of essential hypertensive controls.

#HYPHIP A14/1: We expected that treatment for PA could restore taste thresholds at least to the level of matched essential hypertensives. @adrenalresearch @LMU_Endo.

#HYPHIP A6 2/2:On the link between salt and primary hypertension: This depends on whether a subject is „salt sensitive“ or „salt resistant“. salt sensitive. Some of the genes found to be mutated in essential hypertension are involved in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.

#HYPHIP A6 1/2: Evolutionary selection occured for salt retention and maximum consumption/absorption due to low abunance in „natural“ environment. However, it was no longer than 5000–10000 years ago that the addition of salt to food began, too short term for adaptation.

#HYPHIP A3 2/2: Our study demonstrates impaired taste perception for NaCl in patients with PA when compared to essential hypertensive and normotensive subjects. Specific treatment for PA corrected altered taste perception for NaCl.

#HYPHIP A3 1/2: To assess the NaCl taste threshold the participants had to taste different concentrations of NaCl and to compare them to distilled water. The lowest concentration of NaCl, which was twice discriminated against distilled water, was defined NaCl threshold.

#HYPHIP A1:Guidelines recommend salt reduction in arterial hypertension as well as in primary aldosteronism. Therapeutical lowering of the salt taste threshold might reduce the amount of salt necessary for an appealing gustatory sensation and, thus, facilitate salt reduction.
