Why do people use 🇺🇸 College Soccer Recruiting Agencies?
I've seen a lot of talk about agencies that help players on their college soccer journey, and yes I founded and run one, but thought I'd give a breakdown about the type of people who typically use them.
Firstly,
Big thanks to the Bradford City fans and medical services outside Valley Parade today who helped my Dad who had a heart attack. Not sure who you are but a big thank you from all my family.
He’s recovering well in hospital and will be fine!

My Step-Mum went to buy a home shirt at the club shop for my Dad who wanted to be cremated in one, and they didn’t charge her.
Small gesture but means a lot to her for a club he’s been involved as a player/fan for 50+ years.
What a strike by former Creighton University forward, Duncan McGuire.

Some college players could take inspiration from the big man.

For a long time I’ve not seen any clubs promote any of their players commitments to D2, D3, NAIA, Juco.
Such a shame to players and another reason we have the terrible D1 or just mentality.
(I know they’ll be clubs out there that do share these wins. Please share any that do)
This player who’s playing in the
@NCAASoccer
D1 final right now played 3 minutes in his first 3 years.
Fast forward to 2021, he’s playing for a National Title and a MAC Hermann semi finalist.
That’s some patience AND determination he has.
Bravo

🇬🇧 Great meeting with English League Two side, Bradford City today. After years of trying with previous (but now gone) staff, they are very much keen on hearing about the top 🇺🇸
#CollegeSoccer
talent and bringing them in on trial for the first team.
✅Great to keep building our
If I ran a U.S. youth soccer team I’d take my teams age 14 upwards to every possible college game within driving distance during the college season.
I’d even be replacing training sessions with it.
Unrealistic yes. But so needed.
I think many 🇺🇸U.S. based youth ⚽️ clubs should organize to go on group tours of D2, D3, NAIA and Juco schools.
Because of🏈Football and 🏀Basketball everyone is conditioned to believe D1 schools are the best.
But trust me, there's some UNBELIEVEABLE schools in other divisions.
If you are reading this and you are starting your freshman year in about 4 weeks, I can’t explain to you how fit and physically prepared you need to be.
Do NOT turn up using preseason as a tool to get fit. You’ll be behind from day 1.
#CollegeSoccer
If anyone says 'Covid isn't real'. Then I just want to present to you a photo of my 8 year old niece in hospital, rushed in with COVID this week.
She's on the mend now, but thought this image might just make someone keep that mask over their face fully in the supermarket.
Genuine question: why does no one ever do a defenders camp.
There’s Goalkeeper camps. There’s striker ones.
Just never seen a defenders one.
I know I’d have gone to one when I was younger (I needed it).
D1️⃣ Men’s Soccer has about 200 teams.
That means there’s approximately 1400 spaces available every year.
There’s over 500k players in the USA alone wanting to get one of those spots.
That’s after they’ve looked at the transfer portal first.
The odds are slim, and if you
I honestly don't think people realise the levels at the top teams within College Soccer (all divisions btw).
One key learning curve for me was 6 years ago, I had a player from an English Pro Club. He was their u18 captain. He went to UNC.
Didn't play a minute his first 2 years.
The MLS Next Pro Cup Champions (pro) Austin FC 2 just played the JUCO div 3 National Champions, Richland College (Texas).
They tied 2-2 after 90 minutes of play.
Some talent in Juco.
Got so much time for this! Gutted for him that he couldn't have his proper graduation, but a creative hand by the family has brought Findlay, Ohio to South Yorkshire, England.
Congratulations
@joshdickinson2
! Proud of you mate.
FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR too mamy 13/14/15 year old ⚽️ players worrying about where they’re going to play 🇺🇸 College ball.
Please just enjoy playing right now.
✅ Everything will be fine.
Don’t waste these fun years worrying when you are playing with your friends.
🚺 The newest member of the Cousins tribe arrived today (5 weeks early).
A beautiful little girl who’s name we have yet to choose (tried to get Rona passed but the Mrs having none of it)
Born at 7:40am. 6lbs in beautiful Yorkshire 🇬🇧
Mother and baby doing great 🙌🏻
Truth be told, there are a lot of players who have ‘D1 talent’, and we even have clients who I sometimes think could go play on a top team.
However…
There’s just simply not enough space. There’s a limited number of D1 spots available.
That’s why the other divisions are
Recruits:
College Coaches 100% do check the social media of players they are trying to recruit and/or already have committed.
I’ve checked a few clients this morning and all were doing things I’d not want around my team.
To all the players who’s dream school just simply aren’t interested in them.
Just get into the College Soccer system, smash your academics, and show your talent on the field. If you’re good enough, that option will come.
It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.
Actually amazes me how many players don’t respond back to coaches texts or emails
The only positive I’ll say is, it probably helps the coach dodge a bullet by not having them recruit a player who can’t communicate properly. Which is a HUGE part of the game, University and life
🏴 L1, L2 and National League clubs are missing a trick and not bringing these quality returning 🇬🇧 passport holding 🇺🇸 College players on trial to have a look.
FREE agents, who won’t cost much in wages who want an opportunity.
BLOG POST: Why the 🇺🇸Junior College Route Should be Considered by ALL High School ⚽️ Soccer Players
I thought I'd share this once again. It was a blog article I wrote last year to educate people about the Junior College route.
❌ YOU WILL NOT TURN PRO ⚽️
I repeat
❌ YOU WILL NOT TURN PRO ⚽️
So prepare your life like you won’t.
💪🏻 Control the controllable.
And if you DO turn pro, it’s a BONUS.
And if you DO, the chances are you won’t retire off that money.
👨🎓So get that education just in case.
Do people realise Messi is an international player taking a domestic players spot in the MLS.
I don’t see any complaints there of him taking an American’s place.
I know it’s frustrating seeing so many internationals in
#CollegeSoccer
. But I genuinely think the levels have
Had an event yesterday and a decent D1 really liked one of our players. Even said they’d offer him there and then.
Until they saw his GPA and knew they couldn’t recruit him.
Advice:
If you have the ability to improve, please please please don’t let your grades be a barrier.
Remember when Graham Potter was a coach at our University side (Leeds Carnegie) who played in the North-East Counties league (I think).
Now about to be manager of Chelsea.
All in 11 years.
👏 Fair play to the guy.
To all 🇺🇸 College Seniors out there. Take in every moment.
Once your college career is done, it’s done...
And next thing you know you’ll be a 36 year old getting jealous of all the kids you send out every year about to have the best 4 years of their lives.
👊🏻
#bcafc
is going the way of Blackpool (fans boycotting) & Leyton Orient (inept owners killing the club).
Edin means well, but he’s in over his head with this one now.
And don’t blame Abbot, I had an office next to Edin last season and I heard all the battles with recruitment...
If someone had said to me when I was 16/17 that a Junior college in the cornfields in Illinois was going to be the best college decision I ever made, I’d have said you were mental.
But it was. Awesome place. Awesome staff. Friends for life. And a platform to do what I do now…
Should I make 2021 the year I finally give in to the requests for me to set up an agency specific towards helping Graduating 🇺🇸 College players into Pro clubs in Europe and beyond?
Should I share these ideas with my girlfriend who says I work too much already?! 😂😂😂😂
If anyone ever says D1 is the best for Men’s soccer. That person must have never seen the top 25 teams in all the other divisions.
And most certainly not seen the bottom end teams in D1.
A lot of debate about that Charleston vs Marshall game today, with the D2 side beating the D1 National Champs.
Yes it’s only a friendly...
But it just adds to the growing evidence that the top teams in all 4-year school divisions are more or less equal levels.
#CollegeSoccer
Another player/client we have 'lost' to a pro contract. I say lost in the most positive way possible.
Massively proud of him and look forward to following his career.
@StaffsSchoolsFA
certainly does pump out the talent.
👏 Congratulations to SRUSA Elite Client, Connor Taylor 🏴, who has just signed a new 18 month Professional Contract with 🏴 English Professional Club, Stoke City.
Well done Connor, everyone at SRUSA is proud of your achievements.
#SRUSAFamily
Seeing some of the data on transfers, it's troubling to see so many are going into the NCAA portal and NOT finding a new home.
Putting yourself in the portal with no real stats or awards to your name is very risky.
The grass unfortunately is not always greener.
Am I naive in saying that it’s just a matter of time, not when, all 4 year schools cancel the Fall season and move it to the Spring?
Sooner they do it, the clearer and fairer it is for Student-Athletes left in limbo.
@ImCollegeSoccer
If anyone says it’s too late to get recruited for Fall 2023, then they don’t really know the reality.
Today alone I had over 100 Men’s soccer coaches email me saying they are still recruiting for the Fall.
There’s a place out there for you. So keep looking if you want to play
Thanks to everyone who’s contacted me (from college coaches, to players, to parents) about the clear LIES by that account that claims to spout truth.
I’ve even been shown that they’ve been deleting positive feedback being left on that tweet.
Doesn’t fit their narrative.
I think many domestic 🇺🇸 kids need to hear this.
If you aren’t signed by a pro club on a pro contract at 17 in the MLS or Europe, the odds of having a pro career are slim.
So don’t worry above the division in College. Worry about the right fit for you and your future life.
Is it wrong that I am jealous of all these 18 year olds popping up on
@SportRecruitUSA
's and
@SRUSA_WSoccer
feeds, at the airport about to start the best 4 years of their lives?
😩😩😩
There’s 4 variables in where a player will get interest/offers from when pursuing the 🇺🇸 College Route;
1️⃣ Ability
2️⃣ Academics
3️⃣ Finances
4️⃣ Coaches Needs
People think 1️⃣ is all that matters. But all 4 are major factors of what lands on your table.
Let me explain...
Just my basic take: But with the new sub rules at the NCAA D1 level, I think thats the final nail in the coffin for any regular true freshman looking at getting any true minutes in their first year. (Obviously there will be exceptions).
Fast forward to a few years from now, I
What. A. Day.
Unbelievable effort by all the staff to put on a showcase like that.
Amazing to see and hear about all the 🇺🇸 coaches at home watching on their Tv’s and Laptops.
Thanks to all the players. Some top talent on show!
Now the 3 hour drive home starts.
I’ve had a number of phone calls today with top D1 Women’s Soccer coaches looking for players for Fall 2024.
Yes Fall 2024.
There’s still LOTS looking…
(No matter what people say)
❤️ Overwhelmed with the amount of messages overnight in support of
@SRUSA_Official
and what we do.
Lots of College Coaches, current/former clients, heads of governing bodies, and everyone in between. Pretty clear, that College Coaches especially do NOT like the CST account.
My
Parents, little bit of advice, please stop pretending to be your child when speaking to Coaches via email.
Coaches know, and it immediately gives them a red flag in trying to recruit your child.
Let your child learn through this important phase & by all means guide them.
90% of our male High School clients don’t commit to their
#CollegeSoccer
team until March/April time.
The reality is, in the grand scheme of things, very few commit on signing day.
So no panic is needed. It’s about understanding the realities of the recruitment timeline and
Any Left Backs just been released at 18/19 from a 🇬🇧 Pro Club, interested in the USA route?
DM me. No catches, nothing required. Got an opportunity for you.
Genuine question:
Would the winners of all the different boys and girls leagues (MLSNext, ECNL, E64, GA, etc) ever be interested in facing one another in a true National Championship format?
Interested to hear opinions...
🦄 It's that time of year when about a million Men's Soccer
#CollegeSoccer
coaches ask for a left-footed Central Defender for the upcoming Fall season.
The unicorn position.
Jeez Louise. 😂
🇺🇸 College Coaches, If you bump into any of these fine gentlemen today at the Convention in KC, they'll be happy to help you review some potential new recruits.

Or just stop by our booth on Podcast Row to say hi!
Proud of this lad. 7 years since we first met, he has a National Championship, an undergraduate AND masters degree, and a flourishing College Coaching career.
All started from when he got his aunt to drive him all the way from Stoke to Edinburgh for a
@SportRecruitUSA
trial.
SOOO many College ID Camps happening over the summer across the 🇺🇸
Not knocking them, but had me thinking tonight, how could we do a camp that stood out from the rest.
Here’s a quick thread with my initial late night thoughts…
Excited to share new plans VERY soon.
We’ve got;
- NEW services for 🇬🇧 soccer players
- NEW 🇺🇸 based academies
- NEW 🇦🇪 events
- Plus Much Much more
Exciting times for all involved here at SRUSA HQ 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
The amount of player who do not get back to College Coaches, who have taken the time to reach out is CRAZY!
I've noticed it's just simply getting worse every year no matter how much you tell them to.
(Yes thats including our own clients I'm embarrassed to say).
Anyone that says that 🇺🇸 colleges are done for 2021 are wrong.
Actually very very wrong and my emails/phone with all the requests back that up.
Many haven’t even had a season yet and don’t know which seniors are staying.
So they’re being patience and frugal with their $$$
‘Immediate impact players’
That’s what the majority of top 4 year schools want and ask me daily these days.
That’s why a lot of coaches go to the transfer portal first. They want older, more finished players.
The reality is, whether you agree or not, is just get somewhere
You’ve got to give it to all these young adults, leaving their safe surroundings around the world and flying off to start an exciting new adventure in the 🇺🇸 College Soccer system.
There’s lots that say they’d do it, but it takes a special kind to actually take that step.
👏🏻
The amount of times we say between staff,
"if only he was fitter"
"If only he had a better GPA"
"if only he got a higher SAT score"
So many opportunities missed in this whole 🇺🇸 College Soccer world by things that are in your control.
⚽I'm a firmer believer in the 🇺🇸
#CollegeSoccer
recruiting process that you get offers from the level of schools you are meant to get offers from.
It might not be the Stanford, or UCLA which you wanted, but the offers are in. It's time to get real and plan that realistic future.
I honestly can’t wait for people to see the production value of our December 🇬🇧 Showcases on the 11th and 18th.
Throw in the one-off-kind tech (Randomly a Grammy award winning producers start-up) for coaches to get instant info on players they are want, it’ll be a game-changer.
La Familia ❤️
Week break in Tenerife 🇪🇸 to recharge the batteries.
(Reality, just stand by a pool all day like a lifeguard making sure my kids don’t drown, then be even more tired when I get home than when I left).
At this point, everyone pretty much knows
@ImCollegeSoccer
has turned their account into an anti-SRUSA account, because we, quite frankly are competition.
Their advice is all a front, to ultimately take people/companies out of the industry so their back-end
⚽️ Now’s the time to share that we are going to be launching a service for top 🇬🇧 UK players who finish their 🇺🇸 College career to give them the platform to get into/and be seen by Pro Clubs in 🇬🇧
It’ll not be an agency. We’ll work with agents if they need one.
More news soon
Unrealistic, but wishful thinking thought.
Why don’t schools play teams from any division from their region this spring.
No national champion but regional champions. It’s a mess of a year so why not experiment and try inter-divisional games?
#collegesoccer
Just got word that one of our clients, Owen Thomas, who I really really really wanted to go JUCO so he could play right away, just scored 2 and got an assist in his 3-0 win against the JUCO powerhouse, Tyler.
The

I get asked all the time how there can be College Soccer Freshman who are 22, 23 and playing NCAA.
Honestly no idea.
We only take players on who have max 1 go year. Which is the permitted amount. It becomes a minefield if you sign players with more than that.
But a lot of
2021 entry Student Athletes need a lot of patience this year.
Coaches for the most part are going to see how they Spring goes and which Seniors stay (because of extra eligibility given) before going out getting people signed.
May/June/July will be VERY busy.
Had a player this week who was well down the line with a D1 school. So much in fact I was telling others he's unavailable.
Then some more experienced options became available on the transfer portal and the coach has gone with them.
Thats the realities of the Transfer Portal
Just saw an anonymous account on Twitter saying you don't need a recruiting agency to help you get seen by
#CollegeSoccer
Coaches.
Thats true.
You also don't need a mechanic to fix a car. You can do it.
But you pay them for their expertize and to save you time.
If you are going to email coaches, make sure your subject line is eye catching.
Two examples...
➡️'Former Man Utd u17's Centre Back - 3.78 GPA, 1350 SAT'
Or
➡️'Defender - Wants to play College Soccer'
If you were coach, which email would you open if you have limited time?

Any 🇬🇧 UK 16-19 BTEC ⚽️ type Academy/Clubs interested in playing in a tournament in Florida next Easter?
We’ve been given the go ahead to host a tournament at one of the USA’s best soccer facilities and we want UK teams at it.

DM me if interested.
If you are a 🇺🇸 youth player, who is 'ok', but not being recruited by the big schools you'd love to go to (You had the D1 or Bust mentality but reality is hitting).
You have two choices (in my opinion):
1) Play Juco (which gets prolongs your career by 2 more years), get your
The amount of prospective players we deal with who say they want to play for X school at X level in the USA 🇺🇸 who haven’t even ever watched a

As a former Juco player, many know I'm a huge advocate of the route if you want game-time. It was 2 of the best years of my life at

A LOT of our UK clients have to go this route due to finances/academics/eligibility, and I think many Americans
