The latest data shows that public transport mode share in Gungahlin has increased by nearly 50% since the introduction of light rail. Private car usage declined in Gungahlin and North Canberra, along the light rail alignment, reducing by 9% in Gungahlin 13% in North Canberra.

The 2022 ACT and Queanbeyan Household Travel Survey data has been released showing Canberrans are walking more and light rail has had a significant impact on people taking public transport in Gungahlin

Walking is slowly becoming more common in Canberra, though the vast majority of trips — whether the purpose is to shop, work or socialise — are still in a car.
