“How would you involve them if they didn’t have a learning disability?” Helping inform our patients so they can make decisions about treatment like everyone else, rather than assuming we know best, really stuck out. Loved the cancer-focus easy-read resources. @MikeRennoldson
This afternoon Fiona & Emily delivered some training to NUH Oncology Clinical Psychologists to join up our teams to support our patients access the best care… armed with lots of accessible information of course! 🙌🏼 🗣️ @NUH_Oncology @MaggiesCentres @ClinPsyNUH @ChrisPsyc

Excellent news - well done Beth!
Delighted that our clinical psychology student Beth Thompson passed her viva with minor corrections examining how best to provide emotional support when diagnosed with MS . Her findings soon to be published as still so many PwMS have so little support. Thank you to all our PwMS

The @DataColada team has been sued by Francesca Gino for exposing the fraudulent data underlying four of her papers (she claims defamation). The legal defense could get expensive. Please join us in providing financial support for their defense. https://t.co/BNwezwqUJn

The sketchy world of competence, with ..we think.. big differences between therapist helpfulness (but so little research). Great to hear from Dr Sam Malins on deliberate practicing of therapy skills. Obviously not needed if you’re reading this, as you’re probs top 20%, like me!

I become habituated in therapy, which leads to missing things in latter sessions. Well, we all do! This became obvious due to being observed. It’s unfortunate we can go many years without observation. If we presume we are perceptive, where is our curiosity for what we miss?
When was the last time a fellow therapist sat in on your mid-therapy session? I’ve really valued it. It strikes me working in physical health the amount of observation in other professions interventions. If the patient is open to it - how can we justify this missed opportunity?

A ‘good death’ cannot be prescriptive. Individualised understandings of the person, their wishes, their culture, are needed. Thanks @naomi_pye for speaking to end of life care in our regular CPD today. #NUHCancerPsychology

Meeting the patient where they are in their time of need! Insightful study showing the need for good integration with routine care when preparing patients for intensive and potentially overwhelming procedures. Bravo @MBaliousis & co!
📢 New insights! Psychological preparation (#prehabilitation) is key in #HSCT.🔑 🔍 But what should we pay attention to when designing #RCTs and #groupinterventions to support patients' psychological readiness? Our findings: https://t.co/jto9HedKAz

“You know your own body best”. Is the way we talk about to people about alertness to physical changes having unintended consequences in cancer? Excellent talk on scanxiety, body checking and balance by the amazing @LCHeathcote. Brilliant research talk, kudos also to @MBaliousis!

I think these guidelines are helpful pointers for what we need to improve on - better detection of distress early on, giving good mental health information in personalised ways, and stepped care!

The ASCO guideline gently recommends helping people with depression before anxiety if both are present – but where is the space for what the patient wants to work on first?

I don’t think manualised delivery is clinically practical, and most people do not fit in CBT boxes. Think derived is the key word here – they want treatments with solid theory and demonstrable patient benefit from trials. Surprised to see ACT not mentioned more, but I'm biased!
