I get that it was plot convenience, but in OG Star Wars, the stormtroopers would have zero reason to kill the Larses; they were their lead to get some robots they easily could have bought off them. Implies a missing scene where Owen is a sovereign citizen type who pulls a gun
The prequels make the whole scene all the more ridiculous
*Trooper radioing Vader
"Hey boss, wanted to get you an update. We have an Owen Lars here who says his nephew, Luke Skywalker, is taking the droids to their neighbor, Ben Kenobi--"
"I'm sorry, repeat those names for me?"
"Why are the protagonists in adventure stories orphans?"
SW where they didn't kill off Owen:
Owen on the radio: "Luke, you need to come home. The police are here; apparently the droids are stolen goods owned by terrorists."
Luke: /
"Listen, uncle, me and the old hermit are going to sketchy bars in town until we can find a drug dealer to take cash to get us offworld. He's going to teach me about a religious cult he said dad was in and I'm joining an anti-government militia to see if I can find this hot chick
@ChrisExpTheNews
the goal isn't just to get the droids back, it's also to get rid of any copies anyone might have made of the plans
"kill everyone and burn the house" makes a bit of sense given that
@ChrisExpTheNews
at the same time that's exactly the kind of bungle you could expect from a galaxy-scale bureaucracy that gave up the efficiency of elite clones for the politically expedient conscription of locals..
