We will return soon to share findings from this spring study comparing the relative impacts of exercise, nature, and therapy on physical and mental health. We also aim to recruit non-college student community members in future iterations of LEMURS. [11/14].

In Spring 2023, we randomized students into four groups of 150: (a) Exercise, (b) Nature Experiences, (c) Group Therapy, (d) Self-Monitoring. Students engaged in wellness interventions & completed weekly surveys via a bespoke mobile application platform.

Clustering the nighttime heart rate patterns, we see two broad categories of “sleep arcs” . A prior mental health diagnosis and two or more past traumatic experiences are significantly associated with one of these specific heart rate curve patterns (blue).

More than half of participants met the criteria for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) at least once during the semester. Personality traits, prior mental health diagnosis, history of trauma, & weekly academic stressors increased the likelihood of GAD.
