Josh Reddick over the shoulder catch. Fun OF drill is to just grab a football and run pass patterns. Can put one player on defense and one on offense- promotes all around athleticism and stirs some fun competition.

OF: On balls off the wall, goal is to get it to relay ASAP. Many players have tendency to field with glove, glove tap/re-set at chest, or add shuffle. Plant on the backfoot, use barehand and go. Can help to think "push" into ground when grabbing ball.

Christian Yelich chasing one down in the gap and then checking report for next hitter. Even those without advanced reports, take whatever info the game will give you and use it- get comfortable moving based on hitter, pitcher, situation, and gut.

Big time play by Lorenzo Cain. W/ 2K and pitcher up, Cain positioned in & over to prevent weak contact. Cutter catches middle of the plate and pitch is barreled. Positioning can be make or break the OF- play the numbers and strength of P, make big time play on the mistake.

Tough to find clips of full OF routes, but key in on Charlie Blackmon hop-step in CF. Keeps weight centered while taking read and opens hips fully to create straight route back. Great alternative to traditional drop step.

Pop Fly Priority: OF take charge over IF as its easier to make catch coming in vs. going out. Good rule of thumb for all positions is player furthest from home plate takes priority.

Great clip showcasing some of the intricacies of the game. For every highlight play there are at least 8 other guys doing the little things:. • Catcher backing up the throw. • Baserunner peeking in to know where ball is on a steal. • Shortstop deke on a ball hit to the OF.

Jackie Bradley Jr. playing ball off the wall- Anticipates throw like a relay and plays before warning track to give plenty of space to react. Take the time during BP to play balls live and get a feel for dimensions and surfaces.

So much of the success in the game stems from being on time for every pitch, whether at bat, on deck, in the field, or on the bases. Note:.•Hitters: Timing starts before AB.•Baserunners: Walking lead at 3B, right foot lands as ball crosses hitting zone.•Infielders: Prep step

OF: Watch the barrel as it crosses thru the hitting zone and anticipate. Will ultimately give you your best initial read on spin/slice.
