8 runs of support in 47.1 innings this year, or 1.52 runs per 9 IP.
Ross Stripling has the 2nd lowest run support this year (2.11). Jack Flaherty is 3rd (2.40)
Akil Baddoo is not getting NEARLY enough national attention. He’s rocking a pretty sustainable 130 wRC+ as a rookie who basically missed two seasons and skipped the high minors altogether. It’s remarkable.
My best estimate is that the new Comerica Park dimensions would add about 30-35 home runs to Miguel Cabrera’s career total. Here are the 8 balls since 2016 that probably would have been homers:
This is the highest exit velocity for a Tigers hitter in the Statcast era. A 115.8 MPH missile off the bat of Riley Greene. It tops a 115.6 MPH Miguel Cabrera single back in 2015.
Tarik Skubal outings have reached must-see status. He’s one of the best pitchers in baseball, and he’s still just 25. He’s a year younger than Alex Faedo. Tigers fans should enjoy this.
The Tigers were absolutely awful for a month, but now they’re going on 2+ weeks of solid baseball.
Not sure if it’s improvement, the randomness of baseball, or something in between, but it sure is more enjoyable to watch.
Miguel Cabrera has the 5th lowest isolated power (.060) in baseball. He hit cleanup today, and there’s a strong argument he’s the Tigers best option for that. Fun season.
Most shutouts for an American League offense since the advent of the DH:
2022 Detroit Tigers - 21
1976 Chicago White Sox - 21
1973 New York Yankees - 21
1981 Toronto Blue Jays - 20
1975 Detroit Tigers - 20
The damndest thing about this Tigers team is that literally all of the off-season additions have been decent so far.
But somehow 90% of the other players forgot how to baseball.
Let’s check in on the Tigers rotation:
SP1 - E Rod (IL rib cage, restricted list, fell into Springfield mystery spot)
SP2 - Mize (IL with TJ)
SP3 - Skubal (healthy)
SP4 - Manning (IL shoulder)
SP5 - Alexander (IL elbow)
SP6 - Hutchison (healthy)
SP7 - Pineda (IL finger, tricep)
Kenta Maeda is a solid
#4
starter, and that’s probably all he’ll be.
But there’s also a *small* chance he ends up as the most important Tigers free agent since Pudge Rodriguez.
And there it is,

IF prospect Isaac Paredes just hit his 10th HR of the season. He’s the first teenager to reach double-digit homers in the Florida State League since Matt Dominguez and Giancarlo Stanton did it in 2009.
This is Matt Manning’s 25th career start. He averaged 6 swings-and-misses per game in his first 21 outings. Whiffs over his last four starts:
13
17

16
It continues. The Tigers are now 0-8 this year when Jake Rogers hits a homer. They’ve lost 11 consecutive games when Rogers homers, going back to 2021.
Ugh, just brutal for José De León. Once upon a time he was a top prospect, but he hurt his arm in 2017 and he’s been struggling to find his footing ever since. This doesn’t look good.
Colt Keith absolutely demolishes this ball for a 2-run homer. It’s his 2nd home run with Toledo and his 16th overall. How about 108.9 mph off the bat and 473 feet. 👀🐎💣

Most barrels in a season by a Detroit Tigers hitter since 2015:
1 Miguel Cabrera (2016) - 77
2 J.D. Martinez (2015) - 73
3 Nick Castellanos (2018) - 53
4 Nick Castellanos (2017) - 51
5 Spencer Torkelson (2023) - 50
6 Justin Upton (2016) - 49
7 J.D. Martinez (2016) - 48
Tigers fans are free to dislike any deals the team signs, and are always encouraged to let their wallets do the talking.
But I feel like there’s probably going to be a bit too much focus on Javier Báez’s very real flaws, and not enough focus on some pretty remarkable skills.
Cash is 1 of 11 players in MLB history to hit 40+ home runs and bat .360 or better in the same season. And he’s 1 of just 5 to do it in the integration era (Bonds, Cash, Helton, Piazza, Walker)

I was absolutely convinced Alex Faedo was headed to the bullpen.
He has a 2.87 ERA and a top-10 swinging strike rate (14%) through three starts.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Wenceel Pérez is the first Detroit Tigers hitter with a triple from both sides of the plate in the same game since Victor Reyes did it against Martin Perez and Hansel Robles on August 5th, 2021.
Most games played for the Detroit Tigers since 2018:
1 - Jeimer Candelario (563)
2 - Miguel Cabrera (473)
3 - Victor Reyes (394)
4 - Niko Goodrum (376)
5 - Harold Castro (351)
6 - Jonathan Schoop (331)
7 - Willi Castro (303)
The Tigers had no business winning that game today, but have to give credit to their defense for keeping it close. Baez, Keith, Greene, and Vierling all made really nice plays.
Matt Manning has 20 career MLB starts. His single-game high is 12 swings and misses.
Casey Mize has reached 17 swings and misses once in 39 career starts.
Faedo did it in his 2nd MLB start. 👀
A strong last inning by Alex Faedo as he strikes out two.
5IP 2H 2R 2BB 7SO.
82 pitches, 52 strikes 17 swings and misses.
That is the second time he has generated 17 swings and misses (Toledo being the first time)
Matt Manning deserves to be on the Tigers. But so do Casey Mize and Reese Olson.
In the end I think it came down to Manning allowing 6 home runs in 16 spring innings. Expect to see him back in Comerica very soon.
So barring something wild, Akil Baddoo finishes the year with the 4th best wRC+ by a Rule 5 pick since 2000.
Josh Hamilton 130
Odúbel Herrera 111
Dan Uggla 110
Akil Baddoo 108
Jay Gibbons 106
Mark Canha 105
Not bad for a kid who never played above A ball.
I don’t know if Baddoo is ready for Triple-A. He barely played at High-A, and skipping right over Erie seems a bit aggressive. Recipe for disaster, IMO.
