Very sad news - Icelandic GM Friðrik Ólafsson, who only recently turned 90, has passed away. The former FIDE President played three times in our Premier tournament, winning jointly in 1955/6 with Viktor Korchnoi. RIP. https://t.co/lEP7w6Z44S via @IcelandMonitor

Friðrik Ólafsson, Iceland’s first chess grandmaster and a longtime public servant, passed away on April 4 at the age of 90 in the palliative care unit of the National Hospital.
