We are delighted to announce that the clubs of
@OCA_Cricket
have agreed to join us in the 2021 season. You are very welcome.Thank you to reps of both leagues who have worked very hard over the last six months.
The first draft of our new league structure indicates that in tiers 4-8 we will reduce travel by 35-40% on previous seasons. Predictions are an average of about 16 miles and 25 minutes travel time.
#earlydays
How are you this morning
@harryackland97
? Yes you did take 8-22 in the biggest game in your club’s history, virtually doubling your total wickets for the season.

@CumnorCricket
Ok folks, now live on our website.... the provisional league structure for 2021. There might need to be some juggling to accommodate fixture clashes but this is pretty much 2021.
#rollonsummer
Halfway and former OCA sides are top in 11 divisions and 2nd in the other 3 that they play in. They could win more divisions than they actually had in the OCA.
Our fixture sec goes out of his way to accommodate clubs requests for fixture changes. However requests to play a certain team on a certain date because you have heard their 1st team skipper gets married that day is best reason.
Draft 2021 fixture list should drop into my inbox in the next 48 hours. Like everyone I will check 1st match, jump straight to last match and then check the holiday dates...’yes, they look fine Gary’.
Depressing Fact of the Day
Across the whole of the 2022 season 47 games were abandoned…
At a time when we should be approaching tea on the first day, we’ve already had 86 abandoned 🙈
We go again next week
The committee have met this evening and made the following decisions. We will be playing 40 overs, win/lose cricket when we resume on 18th July. However, in the last few days a number of clubs have told us that they will not be able meet their commitments for 2020 season (more)
ANNOUNCEMENT. The management committee are happy for start times to be adjusted this Saturday on the proviso that both sides and the appointed umpires are in agreement. If agreement cannot be reached the default start times apply.
If England beat Columbia their 1/4 final will be at 3pm on Saturday. We are happy with a flexible approach regarding start times/extended teas etc but agreement will be needed from all captains and umpires. Full details to follow on Wednesday dependent on Tuesday’s result
@Cherwellcricket
want to clarify that we are ready to get playing as soon as we are allowed. We don’t want to make statements about what will happen until we know the scenario we have to work with. There are too many variables to offer specifics at this stage.
The
@Cherwellcricket
rep team on Wednesday is Richard Cook (capt), Adam Wirth, Eric Carpenter, Daniel Clark, Jack Wilkins, George Woodley, Tom Gurney, Adam Webb, Ollie Tice, Ben Clark.

Sadly Roger Berryman, our club secretary and such a dedicated supporter of Oxford Downs, passed away suddenly last night. As I write this I can’t quite believe it and don't have any words to offer right now other than to say thank you to him for everything he has done for us. Tom
@Cherwellcricket
offer our sincere condolences to the Taylor family and all
@GTLTCC
. Gordon’s legacy to his club and
@Oxoncb
will benefit cricket for generations.
The management committee are keen to investigate cup competitions for the league. The secretary would be keen to hear comments and suggestions via the official email.

A proud day last Wednesday as the old man received an award from my cricketing hero for his services to cricket. Least he deserves for all he gives to

(just don't tell him I said that!)

The refurbished Division One trophy that the 10 teams at the top of our pyramid will be playing for this season - in what is the Leagues 50th Anniversary year!
Congratulations to the people in all our clubs who worked SO hard this week to get teams out on this challenging weekend. We have seen a staggering number of ‘new registrations’ in the last two days. You guys are what makes a club successful.
Ok folks, we are nearly there. The process gets very complicated when integrating with other leagues. We are just running checks on the fixtures this afternoon. Following is an explanation of the format.
Opportunity for those who can to play a competitive form of cricket. Clubs please canvass your players now and confirm to us on Saturday if you are able to meet the number of fixtures you are currently offered. Thank you for your patience.
Merry Christmas to all the Cherwell League Clubs and our friends🎄 The Committee wishes you all a healthy New Year and looks forward to seeing you soon

Is winning by 373 runs a league?
@lbtcc
Phil Whatmore extends his lead as the league’s top run scorer. Just 367 required for 10k now. Team mate Lee Selfe continues to chase the Spindler record as top wicket taker.
Sad not to be starting tomorrow. The LMC has decided to treat all games as abandoned and award all teams 7 points. If/when we start playing everything will be reassessed.
Our former Committee Member, Peter Tomlin, sadly passed away recently. Peter gave almost 20 years towards administrating the Cherwell Cricket League. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
Sad to hear
@markje1979
is leaving the Oxford Mail after many years.
@Cherwellcricket
is grateful to Mark for his efforts to ensure we got the best coverage possible.
Divisional Trophies are back & have been for their photo shoot after being redesigned, ‘upcycled’ and rebased 🏆
With the League AGM complete, it must be about time to publish those divisions for 2024 & finalise the fixtures… 👀
Stay turned over the next week for the Divisions
It looks like
@Cherwellcricket
1st XI batting and bowling awards are already won, but good luck to Shabaz Alam who needs 40 runs to pass 1k and Nathan Patrick who needs 1 wicket to reach 50.
