no, but musicians should absolutely have say in which organizations use their music for promotional material. if MAGAs wanna blast Semisonic in their own home or car then no one can stop them. but unauthorized use in propaganda is a threat to the musicians' reputations.

i'm a 90s kid. i have fond memories of the song "Closing Time." it was always this super cozy and comforting song. seeing such a wholesome song used to promote fascism, especially behind the group's back, is heartbreaking and infuriating.
We did not authorize or condone the White House’s use of our song “Closing Time" in any way. And no, they didn’t ask. The song is about joy and possibilities and hope, and they have missed the point entirely.
