I'm not saying "never treat the wilderness as a dungeon-crawl" - what I'm trying to say is that it's worth really taking into consideration what you're abstracting out and, more importantly, why. Hope that makes sense! I rarely post theory but this has been on my mind. (3/3).

I see differences as friction/texture. They're ways to restrict the more freeform nature of the game, but in doing so, make it believable. Complete unification implies complete abstraction, and when everything is abstract, it's harder to see the world you're painting. (2/3).

I've been reading about treating hexcrawls as dungeoncrawls and while I think procedure unification has the benefit of making the game more approachable for new GMs, it's important to consider why we have those procedures in the first place. (1/3).
