Some of the hardest stories I have ever written have been my own. Six months ago today, I was leaving the hospital after receiving a permanent & life-changing surgery. On September 21, 2022, I ended over 25 years of pain & suffering by having my uterus & fallopian tubes removed.

I think @__katrinarenee @NebulousNikki @Chandelis does an amazing job covering space. Its important to see someone that looks like you covering the thing you love the most. ✨️🔭🛰🚀
Space journalists are essential: they decode complexity, inspire future explorers, and ensure accountability in science. Let’s uplift their role this #SharingTheUniverse day. Do you know any Space journalists? #BlackSpaceWeek

"Over the last 80 years, we have built the greatest innovation engine that the world's ever seen... And the other countries have paid attention and they wanna copy it and we shouldn't make it easy for them" - AAAS CEO @sudipsparikh to @NPR's @Chandelis

NEW: Results from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) suggest that Dark Energy, a force that is pushing the Universe apart, may be weakening. That MIGHT mean that the Universe will end in a big "crunch" after all. (by @Chandelis ) https://t.co/AkWF8Zv463

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) is studying dark energy and the accelerated expansion of the universe.

Recently @Chandelis asked me about the role of Smoot-Hawley on the Great Depression. It wasn't the cause, of course, but it worsened the economy. The economic effect was smaller for the US & larger for other countries. https://t.co/1P2HxwLrhZ

Several factors led to the Great Depression, one of the most severe economic crises in U.S. history. NPR interviewed economists who discussed the causes of the Great Depression.

I come from a family of firsts and I am grateful for the dedication of my parents to Florence, Alabama citizens. I am in awe of their resilience and loving spirit despite everything they went through. Proud of you both and ❤️ you forever. #BlackHistoryMonth

And Happy #BlackHistoryMonth to my mother, Ethelene Duster, Florence, AL’s 1st Black deputy director of the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency. Here is a photo of her by the NWS with other EMA Directors on January 30, 2003 at the Weather Field Office in Huntsville, AL.

Happy Birthday and Happy Black History Month to my dad, Joe Duster! He became Florence, Alabama's first Black firefighter on September 21, 1981. And my dad broke more ceilings: He was also the city’s first Black lieutenant fire inspector and first Black fire truck engineer. ❤️

The Geminids will peak this weekend. But keep in mind it is competing with the brightness of the moon that will be full this weekend. More of my reporting below:
npr.org
The Geminids are one of the best and most visible annual meteor showers, when at least 120 meteors can usually be seen per hour. But 2024 will be different, thanks to the year's final full moon.

The International Space Station shifted its orbit Tuesday to avoid a piece of debris. The debris was "small," the U.S. Space Forces-Space told me. More of my reporting below: https://t.co/dK4aIbDwJM
npr.org
There are at least 19,000 pieces of space debris in Earth's orbit, not including active satellites, that the U.S is monitoring.

Reported on air and online about C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, a comet that will appear starting this weekend. If you don’t get a chance to see the comet, you won’t be able to see it again unless you’re immortal because it won’t be back for 80,000 YEARS. Read my reporting below:
npr.org
Your unusual chance to see a comet in the sky is here. C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS was discovered by astronomers in 2023 — and will appear to the naked eye over the next couple weeks.

Got to report a story that is literally close to home. I spoke with Ms. Lillie Cunningham of my hometown, Florence, Alabama, who just turned 110 YEARS OLD. We talked about her life and the secret to living a long life. My story:

Lillie Cunningham recently celebrated her 110th birthday. She has lived through two pandemics and two world wars and is looking forward to voting in November's presidential election.

I’ve always said journalism is a service, not just a job. Here is an example, which shows that not only does journalism matter but the power of radio.
