After you ring in the New Year, take time to talk safety at home. Take a few minutes with your family to practice your home escape plan—know two ways out of every room, choose a meeting place outside, and make sure everyone knows what to do in an emergency.

It's not too late to have those chimneys and vents cleaned and inspected by a qualified professional! Keep anything that can burn at least three-feet away from heating equipment, like the furnace, fireplace, wood stove, or portable space heater.
