#OnThisDay, January 24, 1874, Arturo Schomburg was born in San Mateo de Cangrejos, Puerto Rico. His dedication to preserving Black history led to the creation of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

Yesterday, Jan 20, 1901, Jesús Colón was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico. A writer, labor organizer, & activist, Colón documented the Puerto Rican migrant experience & fought for workers' rights in NYC. His book A Puerto Rican in New York remains a classic.

Meet Xenia Rubinos, a vocalist, composer, & artist from Hartford, CT. The daughter of a Puerto Rican mother & a Cuban father, her music transcends genres, blending rhythm and emotion. Her project, Circulo de Voces, amplifies historically excluded voices in the Boricua community.

#OnThisDay in 1839, Eugenio María de Hostos, Puerto Rican educator, writer, and human rights advocate, was born. A champion of liberation, unity, and education, his legacy lives on through Hostos Community College in the Bronx.

#OnThisDay in 1868, Ramón Emeterio Betances & Segundo Ruiz Belvis founded the Puerto Rican Revolutionary Committee in the Dominican Republic. Their efforts laid the groundwork for the Grito de Lares, Puerto Rico’s fight for independence.
