Sorghum Sudan with cowpea now 5 ft tall. The cowpea has vined up the sorghum Sudan and is looking pretty good. Will have to see how much added feed value for the cost. @ncrsare @UNLBeef
4ft tall, 45 days after planting…looking good. Will be strip grazed this winter with virtual fence @ncrsare @NebENREEC

Third round of rotational grazing for the Sudangrass (started July 11). Starting to run out of juice, has the heat and moisture, need some nitrogen. Have only applied 50 lb/ac. Should have applied 3 weeks ago but weather not cooperating. Cows still happy @unlbeef @NebENREEC
Pretty amazing what a week will do. The ungrazed sudangrass is now 4 to 5 ft tall. Grew 2 ft in a week! @UNLBeef

Happy with how this 50:50 mix of cowpea and sorghum sudangrass mix is looking. Planted July 3rd, 12 days and it has made a lot of progress. The cowpeas really look good, will see how they compete. Will strip graze this in winter @NebENREEC @UNLExtension

Should point out this is 27 days post planting! Warm season annual grasses can really grow fast!

MS student Pedro Fernandes did an excellent job presenting his work (one of many 😆) at ASAS Nationals, estimating sudangrass biomass using vegetation indices and standing height. Technology sometimes work better, sometimes it's not! Connect with Pedro to learn more!

If you like all these grass pics and want to see the cattle and grazing management for yourself join us at @NebENREEC on July 24th. The morning will spent out in the field, seeing and discussing. @UNLBeef
So I think I am seeing an allopathic effect. One paddock is the last one they grazed so the rye did not get so far ahead. The other had a lot of rye growth before we got it killed. Sunnhemp looks good but Sudan is shorter and fewer plants. Will see how production is impacted.

One last set of summer annual pics for today. This Sudangrass, sunnhemp mix was planted June 16th. 2 weeks ago. We were grazing rye, pulled off May 30, it rained and two weeks later we were able to spray and plant. Look at the two pics. Do you see a difference? @UNLBeef
