Wrote a piece about the devastating last two months in China, where a single pack of Paxlovid is selling for over $7,000 USD (and we get it for free in North America). Over 70% of China's 1.4 billion population got Covid since the lockdown measures stopped in early December.

a lot of technologies are, but incentives are misaligned from the top down (governments, capitalism, consumerism behaviour)

It's also an easy sell to undergrads and grad students that creating SaaS tools with high valuation multiples and nice Meta/Google offices is easier to make money through than academia and doing deep tech that actually matter. Incentives and systems all wrong.
