5️⃣ The lack of information regarding preterm birth throughout pregnancy & postnatally was voiced by mothers. 🗣️ “I feel like it would have been reassuring to know more in advance” / “I feel like you need a bit of an MOT…to have a bit of reassurance everything’s as it should be”

4️⃣ Mothers compared their journeys to mothers with babies born at earlier & later gestations as a frame of reference. 🗣️ “The whole time is like this positioning against people having it worse” / “It felt more out of control…than other parents whose pregnancies go to full term”

3️⃣ The perception of bringing a newborn home & ‘normal’ life beginning from this point. 🗣️ “It’s almost as though as a society we want to erase that part (referencing their child’s NICU stay) of their existence & then them coming home is normality & that was where…life begins”

2️⃣ Mothers described a loneliness & vulnerability within their new role, particularly for those whose babies spent time in the NICU. 🗣️ “Not being able to decide what he wore every day… for four months of my baby’s life I had to ring a doorbell to see him”

1️⃣ Mothers described children growing out of the ‘label’ of mod/late preterm once no concern had been expressed at scheduled health visit checks. 🗣️ “He was meeting all the targets and so I thought well….yeah it doesn’t really affect me much anymore”
