Play should be recognised in public policy. Education. Housing. Transport. Health. Environment. Amazing to see yesterday’s editorial in the @guardian calling on this Government to look at the work of @OPAL_CIC and @playingout. https://t.co/y0yEvCGFYu

Editorial: Children are naturally playful, as the artist Francis Alÿs reminds us. But they still need support and encouragement

Children are 20% of our population, and 100% of our future. I’ve secured an £18 million national fund, confirmed in yesterday's Budget, and now I’m pushing for Bournemouth East to benefit.

It was fantastic to visit @WicksteedPlay, a British manufacturer in Kettering that’s been making play equipment since 1918. With 100+ people helping to build the playgrounds children need, it was great to hear their excitement about @RachelReevesMP’s new £18m playgrounds fund!

In case you missed it... 7,924 children and teenagers tell us what's good and what's not so good about the opportunities to play in their area. It presents a picture of children’s play satisfaction in Wales - with quotes from children throughout. https://t.co/Vyzj1cH5ZW

Exploring commuting ethics through scooting, engaging in imaginative play within the willow dome, refining fine motor skills through drawing practice, and discovering role-playing through the playboat are all activities we enjoy in our playground as part of Opal Play! 🛴🌳🎨⛵️

I've now quoted this research nearly every day since it was published. Children (and adults) need to touch good-quality dirt regularly.

LOVE THESE!! Yesterday we had #TeaWithOPAL about dens. One of the most profound changes a school can make is to offer resources for children to make their own spaces where they can feel safe and thrive. Do you call them dens, forts, cubbies or something else? #OPALSchools
Building dens was fun after the break, the kids told stories, used their imaginations, and worked together! 🏕️ storytelling, imagination, teamwork
