Beyond the substantial impacts on people and communities across Ohio, disparities represent missed economic opportunities for Ohio businesses, governments and communities.

Black and Latino Ohioans often face barriers to health and employment — rooted in systemic and historical injustices that continue to this day — resulting in disparities in income, health and incarceration outcomes.

While Ohio ranks lower than most other states, the "glass half full" is that there are strengths we can build upon to improve. We have new employers in high-growth industries, decades of expertise in responding to the addiction crisis, and good access to health care.

According to the most-recent data, Black women in Ohio are 2.2 times more likely to die from a cause related to pregnancy and have a 1.85 times higher rate of maternal morbidity (i.e., health problems related to pregnancy and childbirth) than white women.
