There is also a silver lining: this year, Ohio saw more improvement in Dashboard metrics than worsening. Ohio can continue progress by implementing evidence-based policies, like those elevated in the Dashboard, that support health and economic vitality.

While Ohio ranks lower than most other states, the "glass half full" is that there are strengths we can build upon to improve. We have new employers in high-growth industries, decades of expertise in responding to the addiction crisis, and good access to health care.

According to the most-recent data, Black women in Ohio are 2.2 times more likely to die from a cause related to pregnancy and have a 1.85 times higher rate of maternal morbidity (i.e., health problems related to pregnancy and childbirth) than white women.
