Portland, Maine: they’re HEEERREEE!!! Asking for directions, driving funny, doing weird stuff, standing around sidewalks and crosswalks. I’m not gonna be a jerk to them, it’s totally ok, I’m just gonna avoid whole sections of the city, per usual 😵💫
Really appreciating these looonnnggger days , am I right maine friends? It’s 5:03 and the sky is filled with light and lavender, pal blue, and orange sherbet colors.
Missing a dead parent is weird in so many ways. For me, it’s like, there are
so many questions I’d love to have asked my Dad—both profound and mundane. Like, I want to ask him how to get sap off a car? And I only really want his answer.
Ok, even though we’re at the phase of our relationship where we’re taking family portraits…Portland

, is anyone missing this fine young (?) fellow? He’s kind, hungry & very very affectionate. He showed up this morning outside my back door. Is anyone looking for him? ❤️ ???
Seriously one rad thing about this eclipse is all my

pals (ages 20s-80s) are amped up, we’re all like all kids today! Awe and wonder. More than anytime since the pandemic maybe.

Tomorrow, the cat’s real mom gets reunited with him! Simba is his name, I’ve learned. He ran away in a rain storm - went missing for weeks before he showed up at my back door, very hungry and very tired! I’ll miss him a ton & I’m also happy for him to get back to his own peeps.
As you all know, Simba, the cat was reunited with his owner, yay. But I do miss him and this is the single best fam portrait I've ever been involved in lol
All this northern lights business has got me feeling something : that’s it’s rad when folks are outdoors at night (alone or together) looking up at the skies between 9pm and 2 am or whatnot. It’s good for our souls!
I can summarize Portland Maine like this. Many friends who used to live here but moved away a decade ago (for work) are visiting this summer. Many wish to “move back” but are stunned by 1) Air BnB costs (and availability) 2) home costs & availability. Same as all my local pals!
Gotta say, enjoy every single post and photo

Things I’ve said to the cat *so far* this morning: I love you, you’re a beautiful striped beast, you are little striped muffin, I love you, what’s your name you think, you little bitty tiger … Uh oh, my brain’s been hijacked by this cat! Lol
I've shared my Polish grandma, Tilly, before. She made + sold sloppy joe's in the bar-bowling ally they ran in Cleveland. Tonight, I'm using her recipe to make them, except with turkey meat instead of red meat (she'd likely not get that part, but it's cool.)
Portland Maine people: is my new podcast where I interview everyone who pulls their car into the shuttered Denny’s on Congress St & talking to them abt what it is they’re looking for at Denny’s? And how they’ll still be able to find it? I’m thinking existential/food hybrid thang.
Ride of Silence, Portland Maine. About 50 people (including me) rode their bicycles in silence tonight to honor those who have been injured or killed by traffic violence while bicycling, raises awareness that bicyclists have a legal right to use the road.

- re-posting this. Is this your cat? Your neighbor’s or neighborhood cat? Friendly boy (younger side?) with no chip (I took him in last night.) I’ve also put up signs. I’m happy 💕to care for him but would love him to be reunited any people he already has? Thx

It’s so wild that this would have been my local shopping center - hardware store, grocery store, Chinese food restaurant, music/guitar shop, halal chicken place etc…if the train station had been adapted for reuse, rather than demolished.

Cumberland voters reject affordable housing project. From the article: “We felt there was a lot of uncertainty with who would be living there and thought the income level was a bit low for the people we want to attract to town,” said Caitlin Day.
I'm craving something my Dad used to call a malt, or malted, I think? It was a milkshake with malt power or something in it? Is this a real thing, or just a Cleveland thing? Or just a figment of my imagination?
You know how much I love the Quoddy Tides “the easternmost newspaper” out of Eastport Maine. Well now Peaks Island Maine has their own (new) newspaper!
Being home with no power is a bit like camping: you wake up at the first glimpse of daylight and go to sleep when it gets dark. And then wake up wondering how the hell you’re gonna get coffee.
Maine is weird because all in the same day, I rode my bike to Marden’s, got a bunch of shitty Halloween candy and underwear (none of which I went there for) & now I just went swimming in the ocean.

Using the last brain cell I have left to say “mild” covid isn’t very mild. If you don’t mind feeling like you’ve been hit by a truck, like your skin is flipped inside-out and having your face ache then, ok, it’s mild. Mine ain’t. I’m resting + ok+ have had lotsa❤️ from my friends

Some of my friends are having a “shortest day-longest sandwich” bonfire party tonight. I love Maine-my friends. (It also ends at like 7:30pm which I can dig.)
My brain signals got crossed and I went out into the world today kind of dressed for spring. Let me tell you, it really ain’t spring in Portland Maine. I was freezing. I went to my friend’s art opening and made a couple other stops (on bike) and it was cold cold cold.
I’m sorry I should get off twitter but the amount of people out in stores coughing with no mask and not even covering their mouth in any manner is … scaring me.
For about a week now I’ve been noticing drivers just flat out looking at their phones while driving . It’s so much more noticeable (& dangerous) for a bicyclist to see. And those herky jerky movements drivers do while texting/phone using are terrifying! Get off yer fucking phone!
I just got shot by a BB gun in Congress street while riding a tandem bike. I had a helmet on and was ok, but got hit on my left shoulder and in pain. Mother fucker! Seriously?
I must be the only person in all of maine who walked to the local Asian market and bought flowers in a blizzard? They are now hiding in my coat for the trek home
