Ms. Cozzie Watkins did not come to play with y'all! She said "I've been doing this a long time so let me just be plain- Black people, especially Black women are the backbone of this party...and if we don't show up Democrats don't get elected." <-PERIODT! #DemConvention #DNC2020

Why aren't the confederate monuments coming down in Raleigh? Because of gerrymandering. The NC General Assembly is not accountable to voters in general elections, only primary voters, because the districts are rigged.

The singing of Ave Maria in front of the tragic blaze of 850-year-old Notre Dame has an incredible sadness & beauty to it. I can’t stop listening.

Happy Bday to the #GOAT - James Taylor! #ComeHearNC
Happy Birthday James Taylor! On March 12, 1948 the singer-songwriter was born in Boston. His family relocated to Chapel Hill in 1951. His experiences in the Piedmont figure greatly into some his biggest hits like “Copperline” and “Carolina in My Mind.” #triviatuesday #comehearnc

North Carolina music legend. Libba Cotten. #ComeHearNC #SheChangedTheWorld #SheChangedTheSound #NCMusicHistory #WomensHistoryMonth
Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten built her musical legacy on a firm foundation of African-American instrumental traditions. Through her songwriting and her unique left-handed guitar and banjo styles, she inspired and influenced generations of younger artists. https://t.co/Cr0iALT1cB

The episode of @NBCThisisUs entitled "Little Island Girl" was so relatable - it made me very grateful for my supportive parents who encouraged me to go after my dreams, despite their fears. If you have a child who is pursuing a career in the arts - you must watch it. #ThisIsUs
She did everything out of love. Talk about Beth and her mother coming to an understanding on the #ThisIsUs Aftershow, presented by @Chevrolet.

#WorkTripDay Me at 9am: “I’m only coming into the office for a few hours and then I have to get on the road.” Me at 5pm...sitting in traffic on the highway, just leaving city limits: “Sigh...at least I have good playlists and cheez-its” #SuperwomanSyndrome

Happy Birthday to one of the most influential musicians of all time - the original “artivist” - a woman who used her music to create change. “An artist’s duty is to reflect the times” - Nina Simone #Legend #Artist #FreedomFighter #ComeHearNC
On February 21, 1933, Nina Simone, often called the “high priestess of soul,” was born in the small town of Tryon in Polk County.

Little Eva’s first single, “The Loco-Motion,” launched her into the pop spotlight when it hit number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 in August 1962. In 1971 Eva Boyd retired from the music industry. She is buried in her hometown of Belhaven, NC. #triviatuesday #comehearnc #bhm

*Rapturous standing ovation* “I’d like to note that the joy, warmth and excitement that everyone in this room just shared is phenomenal, considering the space where this installation is happening today. This is a space that was built by enslaved people...

One of the best moments from today’s historic induction: Angela Thorpe, Acting Director of the NC African American Heritage Commission - “Today, a woman whose prose reads loud, clear and unfiltered, is being installed as the 1st African American Poet Laureate in North Carolina.”

Fun last night celebrating @VAEraleigh’s 35th Anniversary Gala! There were so many amazing artists and arts advocates in the room...and it’s not every day a vacant Kmart is also turned into a piece of art. 📸 by Jay Wolonick
