The more I work with UE5 the more I realize how bad it actually looks. VSM was truly a mistake.

And if anyone’s curious, the demo is still up on Steam — feel free to check it out or snoop around if you’d like 👀🎮 It is a Coop only game, Online or SplitScreen. Perfect if you want to have a good time with a loved one!

Sometimes keeping things simple beats chasing every new feature. I think that mindset really helped here 💪

Performance has been super consistent, and hardly anyone’s complained about framerate issues. I saw quite a few Unreal games during Next Fest getting comments about optimization, but so far people seem happy with how mine runs.

Targeting 60fps on Steam Deck forced me to focus on stability and performance — and it’s paying off.

Even though it’s built with Unreal Engine 5, I stuck with a lot of UE4 tech — static lighting, no AI upscalers, no Lumen or Nanite.

I’m using EOS (Epic Online Services / Epic Online Subsystem) for multiplayer, since I want to support crossplay in the future. It’s been a ride getting it working, but I’m honestly impressed by how stable the netcode feels on Steam.

The demo did really well on its own, and I think being an online co-op game helps a lot too — though, man, building that solo has been rough 😅

Now the new baseline seems stable around 70 wishlists/day even after the fest ended — that’s huge for me, especially with zero marketing involved.

Before the event, I was getting around 20–60 wishlists/day organically, which already felt amazing compared to my past releases.

Really happy with how this turned out. I’m a solo dev, and none of my previous projects ever came close to these numbers — this one basically did a 4x jump during the fest.
