This needs to be far more common. And as a discipline, we need to find a way to evaluate teaching that is at least more fair than the evals, that maybe 1/8 of the class shows up for. And are horribly biased.

When will we be able to pre-order?
It is finished. The 2nd edition revisions of my book manuscript are fundamentally done. 154,539 words, 266 single-spaced pages. A few references and figures to insert, and the glossary needs updated, but the hard part's done. Off to a well-deserved drink. Cheers!

Librarian folks, I have a curiosity - how do you decide what new books to add to your libraries? And if you could get a copy of a book for free, would that make it easier to find space for it? My dad wrote and self-published a YA fiction novel, and just wants it to get read.

folks that play chess - how seriously do you take it? Fun matches with friends on the weekends? Studying strategies and playing against simulated opponents? We just started up a game at work. And it’s so fun, but I’m worried I bore my opponents.
