Love this one - just a tardigrade going for a stroll.

These are very cool to watch. Nikon's "Small World in Motion" encompasses any movie or digital time-lapse photography taken through the microscope. https://t.co/ZA93e2pIyW

I also heard that the grebe nesting raft has been renovated. Hopefully there will be a new family over summer. "The raft has been popular recently with pāpango and the odd shag, but they are bound to be chased off soon".

It was a long haul but I did stop at the fur seal colony outside Kaikoura (it's compulsory!!). It was a slow day - lots of resting, not much action. And a supervising gull.

Coming back, I drove from Lake Ohau through to Picton via SH1. The Interislander check in was early & it was the start of Daylight Saving - I was a bit concerned about my usual plan to stay overnight in Kaikoura. On the way I said hello to the giant fish in Rakaia, as you do.

Kind of nuts to come back to Auckland from 5 months over winter in an alpine village and have one of my first thoughts be "golly, it's cold". Makes me realise how well insulated log houses are.

In important breaking news from Aotearoa, Millie is up for adoption - described as a “quiet lawnmower” with a gentle soul and a story of survival. She looks happy in the first shot but I swear she is grinning after losing the weight of all that fleece.🥰 https://t.co/wKZlKKgzdM

Will be pretty much off line for 7 days or so until my new internet setup is available. I need to use the limited connectivity I have for work. I will be back! I will try to keep up with the news, such as it is, and trust you will all behave in the meantime. 🤣

Reply from Strider @Richard82799867 "Great article Mike. I believe that the modern plantings at Papanui Bush are the work of Denis McMurtrie, a former Papanui HS social studies teacher (during my time as a pupil there)." https://t.co/Mlrfj5P2vZ

Denis McMurtrie has a retirement mission – restore a slice of the once mighty Papanui Bush to something like its original glory.

It's a hardware failure. They are sending an entire new Gen 3 kit - which, of course, I will have to get installed. They say when I go away again I should unplug everything & cover it to avoid dust. I had actually thought it would be better left on. Dumb me.
Got home after 5 months in the South Island to find Starlink not working (don't yell - I need it for work). Went to Customer support, shuddered when it said 'AI chat bot' but credit where credit is due - an immediate and excellent response. Still working through possibilities.

Sooo funny. Our new scheduler is not used to cardiology. She came to us witha referral & was quite perturbed. The referral was "fast AF (atrial fibrillation)" & she said "What? Fast as f**k???" I didn't know doctors talked like that!" We dissolved in hysterics.🤣😂

A magnificent new champion for Aotearoa! Fast, fierce, and fearless. Of the top 10 birds, only 2 are listed as "doing ok" - the rest are all "in serious trouble", including our wonderful falcon. 😳 https://t.co/qFxAOvDtJW

The really galling thing about the Acetaminophen thing is that the observations of a potential link between its use in pregnancy and autism WERE taken seriously, and WERE studied using "gold standard science", and found not to be there. The same thing is true of the link to
