I grew up watching #Bo from his 1st game at @AuburnU onward. (My Dad is an AU grad.) Have a full binder of his playing era cards, but none to immortalize his run up the OF wall or his hosing Harold Reynolds in the #Kingdome. Enter @CardsCigarbox!.😁👍😍🖼️

So many sad stories about #JoeD as a person, that I wanted to share a nice one this 4x All⭐️ told. The young #Indians 1B visited the #Yankees legend in the hospital after heel surgery. Joe was very appreciative & at Eddie’s 1st 2 All⭐️ games sought him out to warm up w/ Joe.

#OTD 1989, #TheExpress K’d Rickey for #5000…a plateau he blew past (5714 total) & no one else has joined & likely ever will.

Happy Birthday to #Yaz who is 86 yrs young today!! The #RedSox icon & ‘67 Triple 👑 winner was the 1st AL player to reach 3000+ hits & 400+ HRs.

#OTD 1961, this #Yankees slugger became the 1st player to ever reach 50 HRs in the month of August. For those from another planet, Roger would end the yr w/ 61.😉

Interesting to note that the ‘87 #Twins were the first team ever to win the WS having won all home games. (Series vs #Cardinals went 7 & the home team won every game.) Four yrs later in 1991, they became the SECOND team to do so, beating Atlanta in 7! #HomeDomeAdvantage #HHH

I’m neither a #Twins or #Braves fan, but the ‘91 #WorldSeries might be the best I’ve ever watched. It went 7, & 5 of 7 were 1-run games. Lemke hit .417; Hrbek’s pull on 1st; Kirby’s Gm6 catch & walkoff HR; Lonnie got deked & Jack went all 10 innings in 1-0 Gm7 walkoff. #Classic

#JamesRodney was a bad man: Set the NL record for K’s in a season by a RHP w/ 303 in ‘78…then broke his own record the very next yr w/ 313. Hey @wthballs, we need a follow-up 1980 #Topps “Record Breaker” card! 🤷‍♂️😁

Note: Ed Delahanty won the 1902 AL 👑 & had previously won the 1899 NL 👑, but he’s not considered a 2x winner in modern (1900-) baseball history since his 1st 👑 preceded the AL’s creation. Pointing that out as I know there are a ton of Delahanty fans out there! 😉😁

Baseball is funny. Since AL’s creation in 1901, no player had ever won a batting title in both leagues. DJ LeMahieu became the 1st in 2020 w/ #Yankees (had won ‘16 👑 w/ #Rockies). In just 3 yrs, DJ was joined by Luis Arraez (‘22-#Twins & ‘23-#Marlins). 0 in 100+ yrs; 2 in 4 yrs!

This Dominican hurler went 4-4 w/ a 3.06 ERA over 11 starts for the division winning #Braves, but it was his missed start that year #OTD in 1982 that made him famous. #I285

Call this the poor man’s version of Conlon’s shot of Ty Cobb sliding into third, but I love it! 😍⚾️🖼️ #Redlegs

Of the 6 who stole at a higher % than Rickey, only 2 stole even half as many bases as Henderson’s 1406. This #Expos HOFer is best ever w/ an incredible 84.7% SB success rate (808 SBs - 5th most ever) while this #Cardinals thief is 6th all time in both SB% (80.9) & SBs (752).

Not only did #Rickey steal 50% more bases than Lou Brock, the previous record holder, but he beat Brock’s SB% by 5.5 pts. #TheManofSteal’s 80.8% is 7th best all-time among those w/ 500+ SBs.

I don’t own an #OldHoss Radbourn card but I’m now looking given his place in history. 300 wins & ⚾️ #HOF? No - how about being the 1st man ever photographed flipping the bird?! #OldHoss was w/ #Boston & was flipping off a NY #Giants player circa 1886. Some things never change!😂

A bit more on #TheMick: If we look ONLY at Mantle’s last 6 seasons (starting w/ injury riddled ‘63 - just 65 Gms played) when he was clearly breaking down/broken down, his OB% (.398) AND his OPS+ (159) for those yrs would STILL be 1st among his iconic peers!

It might sound ridiculous, but I’ve long felt #TheMick is actually underrated. Consider this stats table w/ 4 icons of his era. Mantle is 3rd in career BA, but leads all significantly in OB% & OPS+ and is tied for 1st in SLG% despite osteomyelitis & knee probs from ‘51 WS on.

My 1st yr to really watch baseball regularly was 1979 so I thought this #Orioles outfielder was a future #HOFer: .295 BA w/ 35 HRs & 111 RBIs. His O’s lost to #Pirates in epic 7-game WS, but thru no fault of Ken’s who hit .357 w/ team high 10 hits. #HallofDangGood
