Washington Capitals senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today that captain Alex Ovechkin will be away from the team to attend to a family matter and the health of a loved one.

defenseman Nick Jensen sustained an injury after a collision with Tampa Bay’s player Michael Eyssimont in the first period. Jensen is conscious, alert and has the use of all his extremities. He will continue to be monitored by the team’s medical personnel.

sign goaltender Craig Anderson to a professional tryout agreement. Anderson, 39, registered an 11-17-2 record with a 3.25 GAA and a .902 save percentage in 34 games with Ottawa last season.
The final year of the contract will mark Ovechkin’s 21st with the Capitals. In Washington, D.C., sports history, only Washington Senators pitcher Walter Johnson and Washington Football Team cornerback Darrell Green have played at least 20 seasons with their respective team.

Craig Anderson stopped 21 of 22 shots faced in relief, earning his 24th career playoff win. Anderson's .929 career save percentage in the playoffs is the second-highest in NHL history among goaltenders with at least 40 games played.
