"What he’s done makes him the most important person in the history of football; one man changing two different clubs as both a player and coach. Cruyff will never die. Never." 90 minutes with Pep Guardiola - Part 4 of 4 https://t.co/5IkgutylT5

“I need to focus on me, on my own body. When you extend a stage too long, everything begins to lose meaning. One must leave before everything turns routine. Because the fire you had at the start? If it’s not there, you shouldn’t fake it." - Pep Guardiola (via @GQSpain)

“This year I’ve been for four or five months in every away stadium with the crowd shouting: ‘You’ll be sacked in the morning’. That is, they’re going to fire you. There’s no other profession where 60,000 people ask you to be left without a job.”

It's going well, no problem. My work is public, and all I have to do is accept it... Win or lose… what does it matter...

If you want to put your frustrations on someone else's mind & you're calmer because things haven't gone well for someone else, that's your problem. It's the problem of people who want to put frustration of their lives on me and are happy because things haven't gone well for me...

That's what it's all about. Even when I was winning, I didn't feel we were anything special, and now we haven't won, I don't feel like a failure...

Name one who doesn't. The important thing is to give your all, do it well. I haven't given up on that. I've done poorly, we've had worse results than I expected, but the next day there's another, and I'm going to try again. Next year I'm going to do better...

"I'm delighted to have failed. I love failures. In this society where everything has to be perfect, where you have to post food on Instagram, 'How good, happy I am.' Every day we have to prove we're happy. Well, yes, I'm sad, I fail, and I lose. So?...

In Euro 2020, with 291 balls recovered, nobody pressed better than Italy or regained possession more effectively in transitions… Yet only Jorginho got onto the list of the top 7 players for distance covered (though he played more mins than any other outfield player)…
"They aren't pressing enough, because they're not fit enough!" 👀 Rob Dorsett discusses Gareth Southgate's comments regarding the fitness levels of his England players 👇 https://t.co/GFFi0SGfxw

Rodri off at HT. The style and approach remained unmistakable. Regardless of individuals, personalities and characters on the pitch, the football identity is the most important player.
Formations are just numbers. Positions are just starting positions. Even more so in a football identity like that of Spain’s; a culture constructed on the social-relations, synergies and feelings within a group. https://t.co/7RNq9DPHyb

“When you attack good, you defend well & when we defend well we attack better. You can’t separate them or only talk about different things like “Just attack” or “Just defend”. Over the past 20 years, the teams who have scored the most have conceded the least.” - Pep Guardiola

As coaches, analysts and fans we can use words and numbers to describe systems, styles and structures… But football will always belong to the players. What do they see? How do they feel? How do they connect socially? These aspects are what dictate how a team plays.
Q: “When did it start to feel natural to play all together close to the ball, passing 4 or 5 metres, more functional than positional, if you like?" A: “Well, I think that in the game against Brazil we felt we had played a great game... 1/5 https://t.co/dpeckWZ1kl

While football is played by humans, not magnets on a tactics board, it depends on emotions, relationships & connections that constantly adapt. Synergies between 2 humans can be affected by a 3rd human. Tactics are the players & can’t be given a label or put in a box on a shelf.
