I donβt know about Texas, or the rest of the states. But, in Canada, it is not a crime to be without ID, and the police need reasonable suspicion, that you are involved in criminal activity, to request your ID. So they better have a reason to ask, or they can pound sand.
Idk about all of America but in Texas if you dont carry an ID or DL you can get fined. So it is actually normal for people to carry some type of identification and cops to ask for it when you've been detained
